My mother (now 82) saw Elvis in concert (1970) and she said he was "THE BEST" - this praise from a woman who'd also seen Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, Righteous Brothers, Temptations, - ELVIS was the complete package - and he was kind, generous to his fans. That reaction was perfection too -- subbed! Elvis WAS supernatural in a very real way. No other musical performer or band had SO many gifts. Singing, dancing, stage presence, the look, the feel, he just had EVERYTHING. The only way I can make sense of it is to say that its not that he was gifted, its that HE WAS THE GIFT. BB said the exact same thing. And when BB King says that he "just had everything" -- who could possibly know more than him about Elvis? They were very close, good friends.

When I heard he died I cried. I am a man but that did not make a difference. I was 22 years old. My mother had a 45 rpm record with Return to Sender on it. I was 6 years old then. I couldn't get to much. Same way still today. May the King RIP!!

My dad went and bought a tape recorder so Mom could tape tributes. I wasn't alive when Kennedy died but everyone that was ... where they were is imprinted in the mind... I fell in love with Elvis 65 years ago at the age of 10. As seen by your reaction all it takes is one song. He was just that magical! I have a few recommendations for you to check out as you begin your Elvis journey: "Hound Dog" (on The Milton Berle Show) and "Jailhouse Rock" (from the movie of the same name) will show you a young Elvis. Two of my early favorites were "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" and " Angel". "Love Me Tender" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" from the 1970 show are must sees. And from the '68 Comeback Special "Make The World Go Away" and "One Night With You" (can't wait to see you react to this one!). Enjoy!!
