There is something about his voice. I hear it more and more as I get older. There is just something very different in his voice. Doesn't need all the fireworks, and unlimited range, he does much more with what he has. His spirit is very present in his voice, and its a strong presence

Paul Simon (from "Simon & Garfunkel" saw Elvis perform this song in Vegas. Totally blown away by his rendition, Simon simply said; "how the hell can we compete with that…?" So true. Elvis takes this song to another Dimension.

Paul Simon having seen Elvis perform the track at Las Vegas during the 1970 summer season, later commented that Presley’s rendition of his song was a “touch on the dramatic side.” “But so was the song,” he added. “When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ it was unbelievable. I thought to myself, ‘How the hell can I compete with that?’”

In those days the singer was more important than the songwriter. Why? No auto tune... If Elvis sang your creation you were set for life. Today anyone can sing with technology.

August 1970, International Hotel in Vegas. 35 years old then. Though he used drugs then, mostly uppers and downers, not the hard stuff yet that killed him in 77. Paul Simon wrote the song, Art Garfunkel sang it. During this engagement, Paul Simon attended one show and afterwards said, " where in the hell does that leave me" after hearing Elvis sing his song. A absolute tribute from Simon and admiration. It must have been really cool for Simon, listening to a absolute legend and superstar, sing something you created and sing it in a way that blew him away. Watch, "Elvis: That's The Way It Is". A documentary that this song is from. Absolutely mind blowing. What a true talent. Really sad, drugs robbed him of everything, we should of had 30 more years from him.

Nice one to react to bro! An artist remembered for many things but was never really appreciated for his true vocal talent and abilities. Kudos for acknowledging and respecting that. I was fortunate enough to see him live in June of 1977 2 months before he passed. His health was not good but his voice was still amazing and the sold out audience still loved him. It was a magical experience for a 12 year old kid and fan. I could care less about the so called self appointed experts online about Elvis. For some reason he was not supposed to be human at the end of the day but he was. I will always appreciate the talent he shared with the world. Keep up the good work man! Peace

Best reaction to this song I’ve seen on Tube. Well done. Although I love seeing him perform it live, my personal favorite is the studio version he released as one of the songs on the original vinyl record of Elvis; That’s The Way It Is. The record was released in 1970 when the movie hit theaters. They dubbed in applause at the end of the recording to give it the appearance of a live performance. It’s much clearer and the last 45 seconds of it is stunning. You can hear Kathy Westmoreland hit an incredible high note that blends perfectly. Take a listen for yourself and I think you’ll agree. Thanks for sharing these and always appreciate seeing new fans’ reactions. By the way, if you haven’t already please react to If I Can Dream from his 1968 TV special. It’s a WOW song. Thanks again.

Simon and Garfunkel wrote and sang it originally. This particular Elvis version is from the 1970 international hotel and casino show, it was recorded live as part of the "that's the way it is" concert/movie. In my opinion this is also the best recording of this song, followed closely by Aretha Franklin's version and the 1972 Elvis on tour version.

Elvis 1970 from “That’s The Way It Is” he sings this version very good but different from the actual album version with the same TTWII title. He sings that version harder. Both versions are great but different. Paul Simon said of Elvis’s version “how can I compete with that” I think he was referring to the album version. Again ,this is just as good as the album version. The album version I believe is a studio recording with applause dubbed in at the end. In this live song he does that neat thing with his voice “like a uh a bridge over...” he does not do that on the album.

There has been a-lot of great music played on Mother Earth, GREAT Musicians, And A-lot of and I mean a-lot of GREAT singers I have been around though most all those years, but vocally they could not go up in many octaves ....Move from one note to another and go from loud to soft.....Soft to loud and stop it any were ...... Just to pick it up again without missing a heartbeat as Elvis ........... Their range was limited.......... Plus Rapping is not singing it's talking fast ..Well it is.......... And the so called music today has no powerful singers ...And high voices do not have the power thing at all Yes they can sing but not like Elvis .......... Elvis had the right voice for it all .........Anyway ....... Choreographically today's music is fun to watch Because it is choreographiced PRACTICED ,But after awaile it's the same ole beat to heard some ole stuff . As far as vocals {Singers} are limited to average ability or sound the same as one another. don't believe me listen again to your groups of today turn on your radio or just listen to the cars speeding by you Loud noise that all........ {Same- o Same- o } As it is force feed music controlled by the establishment. Controlled by money not talent, As they can hide the sound though equipment manipulations Controlled all-so to keep the people busy and controlled and not paying attention to the world affairs. So they can slip in new rules and regulations on us with out a fight So we don't see the slow grinding of Entrapment by the ruling class of the elites slowing taking our rights away, YES it go's that deep. Talent was being rubbed out starting as early as the 60's and maybe earlier then that. When it was found out that there was BIG money to be made though control of the music world... So a take over happened and ra-li A National play list was born. The Ma and Pa radio stations were forced to closed up, As the rich and powerful took over to rule the world, True story!!!...... As far as king of the music world... Elvis is, PERIOD, As it is already set in stone, and if you would take the time to REALLY listen to Elvis's music {As he did over 700 songs} you would soon find out that he could go many many Octaves, In any word, In any line, In any song, Any time, That he so desired. UNSEEN TODAY, It is just not done, You would see this fact ! Elvis was- is- and always will be King of it all. As 73 years so far has proven it. He has withstood an an- slot of singers, And I mean some great singers, During his time, And the time after him, That has come and gone, Yes sir, There is a stable of GREAT singers. But Then there still is Elvis. You can, Fight it, Argue it, Cuss at it, Disagree with it, Be Jealous of it. But every time the dust settles. Elvis is still king. Borrowed talent from God himself as history has proven it 73 YEARS AND COUNTING.... Once in awhile God sends a mes-sager to his people, Elvis was one such mes-sager. Mankind can try to change it and proclaim some-one else if they want, BUT God already said. And that Son. That is some thing that you just can not change. Though Elvis I have discovered that we all must be brothers and sisters, You see Elvis must be my brother, even though we were worlds apart in singing, In acting,In charisma , In life When ever I hear him sing now or then, To this day I feel his love for me and all. And you just can't have a better brother then that now can you!! BONUS ................................kzbin.info/www/bejne/apKWgIiDhpqheKM........................ whole Lotta Livin To Do Elvis................From the movie, Loving You (1957). As you can see the king charms the crowd in to summation on the movie as well as it was in real life, You will see at the beginning the older lady's did not want to "get in to it" but as the king did his thing the lady's joined in . Also the women in blue in the Isle when Elvis turns to his left is his mom and his dad next to her as they clap for their son's staler performance Don't believe me OK then just watch and you to will become a fan of the man. Give it a spin you'll be glad you did ! Thank you Son, For keeping the kings work our joy Around for the next generations to Enjoy,................ PEACE P.S.S The only people that claim bad things about Elvis is Jealous NO, IF, AND BUT He is the king then, now and forever. SO GET OVER IT so you can enjoy life And the love he so gallantly did for the world and that is the treasure Elvis give for us!! PEACE Attachments area Preview KZbin video Elvis Presley. Respect your opinion but have to disagree. This is the definitive version. He looks better..healthier, the presence, the voice is so strong here. He commands the stage he is in total control. The way it is filmed, the lighting on the stage lends itself to this more than in 1972. There are parts in the 1972 performance that are really good but overall to me he sounds tired. The 1970 version all the way ....in my humble opinion.

Yes, the way it was filmed, the way he looked, all the effects were in place. Nevertheless, the voice counts. And his voice for this song was superior in 1972 to that of the 1970 version. He improved upon it. He went beyond. He wasn't content with his version two years prior.

II was watching/listening to a video of Elvis doing this in June of 1977. He sang it at a level comparable to that of the early 70s, though he had to have the lyrics in-hand. In the beginning of the song he sings : "I will give you a scarf." That's sung right after "When tears are in your eyes." He had a wonderful sense of humor.
