BEAUTIFUL song, so nostalgic!! I remember when this came out, while she was touring South Africa 1982/3, especially singing for the "troepies" in South West Africa at the time. Originally this was a song composed by Phil Cordell in 1971 which he recorded under the name Springwater; then German singer Michael Holm had a hit with it twice in South Africa (in 1972 and in 1976) (the song was titled "I'll Return"); after that Italian songwriters wrote new lyrics in Italian and Geraldine's husband Phil Coulter and his writing partner Bill Martin re-wrote new lyrics for it from the Italian, hence "Take Me Back" and "I'll Return" have different lyrics but the same melody.

"I Will Return" by Springwater (written by Phil Cordell) is a different song to "I'll Return" written by Ignazio Polizzy, Claudio Natili, Marcello Ramoino, Michael Holm & Tony Eyers and was recorded by German Michael Holm (produced by Giorgio Moroder). Holm also did a version of "I Will Return", and they both charted in South Africa as you say, but they were different songs. The Geraldine song took the tune of I'll Return, with English lyrics as you say by Bill Martin and hubby Phil Coulter for her song take me back

Wow, what beautiful memories. I discovered this song during my 3-week holiday in South Africa. It was playing on all the radio stations.
