I just watched the Netflix show that came out about him. I have always loved Elvis. I had no idea he was so connected to God! So sad he succumbed to the entertainment industry! (I wrote this 2 years ago but I want to share it again): I'm a Christian, and some of my favorite music is hymns and Elvis. Near the end of 2021, my Grandma and I went to an Eagles bar event with an Elvis impersonator. He's singing Blue Hawaii and Jailhouse Rock and numerous other of his songs. Eventually, people were getting a sheet of paper and writing what song he should sing next and putting them on a stool in front of him. So I got one and placed it there. My Grandma asked me what I suggested, and I said I'd tell her when he got to it. Every time a new song starts: "Is that it?" "No, I'll tell you when we get to it." Repeat about 10 times tops, with more agitation each time. Finally, the Elvis impersonator goes: "Ladies and gentlemen, if you folks don't mind, I'm going to sing a little Gospel..." and my Grandma goes: "Oh, that's yours!" So Elvis sang How Great Thou Art, and everyone joined in the chorus. Let me tell you that singing a hymn while everyone is drinking beer is a surreal experience- ha ha! :)

This exact version was played at my fathers funeral this past Sunday may 14th 2023 . It was in a massive funeral home . The sound was like Elvis himself was there singing . I was really surprised to hear this when it started playing . It was the most perfect song for him . He also sang amazing grace first . While the officers were standing at attention during the entire service dressed in uniform with white gloves . When they closed the lid on the casket there was a black fella that was at least 6ft 10 or taller stood facing my father , clicked his heels and gave the greatest salute I’ve ever seen . I was so proud to be my fathers son . He was a 50 + year police officer/ detective for Knoxville Tn . He and his twin brother both retired at the same time .

This was my grandfather’s favorite song, next to “The Old Rugged Cross.” I love this one but it makes me cry so hard because I miss him so much. He went to his eternal home in Heaven in January 1994. Though it’s been nearly 31 years, I still remember falling apart when I was told he died. I was 16 then. At 47, it still hurts. No I’ve not gotten over it. I never will. Some days are easier but then little things remind me of him and I wish I could call my grandparents, but none of them are here anymore. If anyone is lucky enough to have grandparents still alive, please make time to be with them as much as you can.
