EL VY is the musical collaboration between Matt Berninger, vocalist and lyricist of The National, and Brent Knopf, the Portland musician and producer best known for his work in Menomena and his more recent band, Ramona Falls. Their debut album 'Return To The Moon' will be released on October 30th via 4AD.

This is what great pop music aspires to achieve. Breezy, pulsing forward momentum, an admirably, infectious hook and tight flow throughout.. Bright, smart, fun and danceable. Definitely one you can shake that azz to. Never heard a Berninger performance groove like this before. Hope this influences rubs off on the next Nation LP. Leave some of the doom and gloom in the past.

+Taylor Research the lyrics and think you will find everything sounds great, as in life, until find it's all a hoax!! For example, you like someone and they tell you to meet them at the Serpentine Wall......take a look at what that looks like. Or, for the political.......Return to the Moon...yet people are still dying here on earth. Where would money be better spent? It's an AMAZING song just by the sound, then you try and find out the meaning and it gets even better! Like who is Didi Bloome, another awesome prank!!!????

I actually like this song! That's a surprise. You've got a 60 - 90's decade punk and ska music listener here @ 36 years old. I've also been listening to "indie" music since age 19 when the Strokes surfaced(only like their first 3 albums)but I have never once been into the hipster scene though, lol.
@javierrodriguez47079 жыл бұрын
Did just Matt do a no-falsetto A4 at 3:51? That's absolutely crazy for a baritone-bass like him.
@javierrodriguez47079 жыл бұрын
The Clash 18 Okay, after relistening the song a thousand times I think that the word "corner" is a falsetto. He reach F#4 though, not bad at all.
@spacejesusadventure9 жыл бұрын
+The Clash 18 It's not really. Baritone singers generally have quite thick vocal cords and can achieve falsetto without a lot of difficulty. If he hit it in chest, on the other hand, that would be impressive.
@javierrodriguez47079 жыл бұрын
Patrick Bateman Yes, I realized he was using falsetto. I really look up Matt because he's the first singer that I hear with exactly the same voice type as I have, so I usually try to find out which note he's hitting and sing along. I think he's in midway baritone and bass. He sounds too deep for a standard baritone imo, so hitting G as he does (I should live in salt) is rather impressive now.

+Ruckus Penguins I don't get your hipster reference, but maybe some people are tired of the same old boring, unoriginal indie pop that's saturating the internet these days. The annoyingly pretentious song title doesn't help either.
@user-vi4xy1jw7e9 жыл бұрын
+Carbonated Turtle I didn't know the movie, "Footloose" was hipster. People use the term "hipster" way too loosely nowadays. How do you even know the song title is pretentious when you don't even know the reference to Footloose? Sure, the song isn't super original, but does that have to be criteria for all songs? The song still sounds good. It's still better than a majority of what the radios play. Go back to your Katy Perry, Maroon 5, or whatever crap you listen to.
