Everness

8 жыл бұрын

The peaceful woodlands to the south of Stormwind City seem more tranquil than ever since the fall of the Defias Brotherhood, but the inhabitants of Elwynn Forest are hardly idle. There are fields to sow, mines to work, and lumber to harvest. For all its pomp and grandeur, Stormwind wouldn’t last long without a constant stream of food and supplies to support the city’s population. This exchange has become increasingly threatened by kobold invasions, vicious feuds among farmers, and attacks from wild animals. Northshire Abbey remains dedicated to recruiting and training any adventurers brave enough to help keep the peace. Likewise, the Blackrock orcs are gathering their forces in the nearby Redridge Mountains. With Stormwind’s militia stretched thinner than ever, these renegade orcs stand ready to finally annihilate their old human enemies in Elwynn Forest.

I remember my first character was a Paladin and I was like lvl 5 running into Stormwind with just a silver or two to my name and a lvl 60 Paladin on a mount rides through the gates gloriously, stopping when they see me to ask "Hey, are you new?" I was and told them so. "Here, trade with me." And they gave me 5 gold. Of course this was nothing to them, but to me it was more money than I could have ever imagined in the game at the time! They said, "We Paladins have to look out for each other." And went on their way. It was the true experience of an uncertain new recruit peasant boy meeting a storied, legendary knight and the knight taking time to notice you. I was in awe and will always treasure that interaction in my heart. It's so funny how a tiny act of virtual kindness can have such an impact on a person. I honestly try to embody that person's kindness and leadership in my real life to this day. What a game!

Got my Mom playing World of Warcraft while battling with cancer. She really made me appreciate the small things in life, even in WoW. This was her favorite place to run around and quest. Sounds a little ridiculous but while I was all about doing dungeons and trying to get her strong gear, she just wanted to ride around on her mounts that she collected and listen to music. I really miss those days. Love, your Son. (I keep coming back to this page...I miss you more than you could ever imagine.)

Fox, the world is so much larger now than it was then, but back then the world felt bigger. No flying mounts, no movement abilities at level 10, and no heirlooms. When you traveled the world it felt as though you were a normal person going on an adventure, conquering all odds and surviving in a world set out to kill you, way better than the power-fantasy gameplay of today, where everyone's the special hero to save all creation or some bullshit. When you played then you knew what you were, an individual. In a way it felt more empowering to know that you weren't just "the chosen one", given arbitrary power for some god-granted quest, but a normal person with perseverance and teamwork, making slow but steady progression. Teamwork was a huge part of the game, which made interacting with people not only essential, but fun. The community was much more friendly back then. I remember my first character as a level 11 rogue, going to a bag vendor to buy new bags and having some max level character come up and trade me free 12 slot bags, just as a random act of kindness, I remember priests stopping to give me buffs, I remember mages giving free food if you asked politely. That's something you just don't see in wow today. The gameplay, graphics, lore, and overall polish is far better in Legion than it ever was in vanilla, but the game feel? The atmosphere? I'd take vanilla over current wow any day.

I actually let a tear Slip listening to this. Back when tbc released my dad showed me the game that he was very enthusiastic to play. I was 9 back then but it sparked so much of my inspiration about fictional worlds just watching him play. He would always read the original quest text to me and sometimes we thought of different storylines and reasons for the quests if we (or mostly i) didn't like it or thought it could be improved upon. (As much as you can improve queststories as a 9 year old) Sometimes we would make house chores my quests and I was super enthusiastic about my fictional reward of gold which I didn't even really got since I wasn't even playing the game :D We would listen to the same soundtracks over and over again including this. He told me to be creative, kind and respectful to everyone and everything and if I don't like something I can make it enjoyable by just looking at it from another point of view (like long rides or boring farming questlines but you got to Enjoy the music, moving on beat or maybe see a pattern of trees you already saw somewhere else) I didn't listen to this soundtrack for I think about 8 years now and those first 30 seconds brought back everything at once I love my dad

I met my wife in goldshire, we spent many many hours just sitting in elwynn forest talking, getting to know each other. eventually we met in RL and moved in together and married. exactly today, 5 years later, we divorced and went our own ways. this was the place we first met and fell in love, maybe sounds weird for a lot of people but it can happen. anyways, life goes on. still a lot of memories in this pixelated little world.

I started out as a dark pink, blue-haired Night elf warrior in 2006 when I was 11, after my classmates convinced me to try. My friend fixed a portal for me from Teldrassil to Elwynn because she "knew the quests" in Elwynn, hahaha. English was not our first language, and without today's quest system we sometimes struggled. We were six friends, three guys and three girls, who were absolutely terrible at this game, I remember I wore armor with intellect because I wanted to have a smart character. We chose the wrong professions. But it was so much fun. One day me and another friend decided to WALK up to Ironforge where her stepfather was. We thought we had to walk through Redridge and up (as level 12's or something). We died and died and died in Burning Steppes until we gave up. And we didn't have enough time until we were attacked from skull level mobs to use our hearthstone, so we had to die our way back down again. Then we spent all our silver repairing our broken armor. Memories.

I used to level up my mage hoping that with a higher level I wold be able to wear mail or plates because it had more armor than cloth. The nostalgia I feel for WoW is brutal. It's punishing. It was such a fun, happy experience and I miss it sorely. I started playing WoW from the start and I still can't shake off the nostalgia. I haven't really played much since Mists. I have every expansion since and leveled up to max level (except in the current xpac), but I found the leveling is a soulless, empty experience. I miss the days of busy starting zones, with people helping each other. Those early group experiences with Princess and then Hogger. We didn't have the knowledge, experience and resources we do now that make it a lot easier and we relied on each other. We made friends. It was a great time! This music really impacts me and takes me back to this pre-facebook, pre-social media, pre-netflix time. It just makes me wish I could go back and forget what lies ahead, so that I could experience it all again for the first time.

I feel you, man. I stopped playing WoW in 2015 when I went back to school because I needed all my energy for school, and I realized WoW was the closest thing to an addiction I ever had, so it would be better not to go back to it. But there are times when I really miss the starting areas, just running through the forest, and playing with friends.

I played into Cataclysm and revisited for Warlords of Draenor, but for me the magic period was c.2005-06, pre-Burning Crusade even. There was just nothing else like it. It was the coolest game going, everyone was playing, and it felt like there were infinite possibilities when you were just starting out. I don't think another game will make me feel that way again. In a way I'm relieved, because I played it way too much, but still, I left a piece of myself behind in Azeroth...

This was more than just a game, it was an experience to be had. I will never forget my dwarf hunter times. So many great memories come to me listening to this. Just being in Dun Morogh doing the quests, running across the frozen lake, shooting boars, and then discovering Elwynn Forest running through the woods, shooting more mobs... Thank you to whoever the level ~20 was that helped me get Hogger and with other quests. At the crowded center of Elwynn Forest I got invited to my first guild Guardians of Nature. I had leveled to 70 and stopped playing 6-7 years ago, I got back once and with my items (carrot as a trinket and such) I got defeated in duels by levels 15 lower than me. Those were the noob times, but they provided with such great experiences unmatched by any other game. Thank you for making this beautiful video.

Same here, my friend. I got into it in 2007 when I was going through a painful divorce. I could've easily become a self destructive bar fly/club whore or something, but instead my brother got me into WoW while he let me crash at his pad. He showed me the ropes and we had a blast playing ALL THE TIME together. Not only did it keep me out of trouble as the dust settled, but it helped me heal. Sounds silly, but you know what I'm talking about. This game was seriously therapeutic for life. Wish I wasn't too busy these days to play, but the nostalgia factor is off the charts for this tune. I seriously miss this world and the friends I made there. :(

WoW did help me to get through bullying and the hard times that caused. The adventure was grand, the people were mostly great and dedicated to have a good time! It's shame that the game these days just isn't as friendly, thanks to all quick dungeon and raid tools. :( And the feeling of adventure isn't there, when the content can be just breezed through. Still, these ambients bring back all the good memories, the thrilling moments when you run away from too powerful mobs or people from the opposite factor. Or sneaking with stealth with my kitty druid. And the dungeons, when you collected the group and pushed through together, thinking how to defeat each trash patrol and especially how to deal with the bosses. WoW has a special place in my heart, even if I don't like the current WoW as much. It did help me get through difficult times and experience adventure.

It will never be the same as it was back in the days, and that makes me incredibly sad. I can still feel the emotions I had back then, the memories, the fun and the connections I made. But it will never be the same. As a wise man once said: "You will never know you're in the good old days, until you're not".

Despite losing five years of my life to WoW, I somehow still miss playing it. I had a good job, money, lots of friends, parties, was young, had women, drank and partied all the time, didn't worry about anything, paid all my bills, had peace and freedom, traveled a lot, talked to girls a lot, did a lot of photography, and played a lot of World of Warcraft. I didn't play WoW when it released. I was in my senior year of college, so I was too busy studying, working a part time job at GameStop, and preparing for grad school overseas in Japan. But my roommate asked me if I could use my employee discount to pre-order and purchase the game, which I did as an early holiday gift for him in 2004. He played it on his laptop in the living room area while I studied in our room. But whenever I would pass through the living room to go to the bathroom, or stretch my legs, or make something to eat in the kitchen, I would hear the sweet melodies of this game. He was a great friend, that was a great time, and those were wonderful memories. I miss those days dearly, and oftentimes I wish I could go back and relive them. My life is good now, but those times were magical, and while I never really played WoW much, the music means so much to me. I can only imagine how hard and heavy the nostalgia is for people who associate such strong memories of playing the game with this incredible music. Their minds must be instantly transported to those virtual worlds. I love reading all these life stories of the fond memories people had discovering and playing WoW in those vanilla days and how this music brings back the richness of those experiences.

You can play it again. You can play it today. But yes, it is true. It may not be quite the same and it probably won't feel quite the same. The reality of life is you really can't go home again. Because home changes and you're not the same person. But you can still play and it will bring back lots of nice memories.

@@TheGrandmaster1 this! So much this. I don't enjoy the way wow went with the recent stories and expansions, but I still come back every now and then to get a new character and start leveling him up, getting that feeling of "I'm back, I love this", with all the nostalgia of old places and quests. And this music. But I don't go to the newest quests. I tried BfA, it was ok but nothing special, and now shadowlands I can't get past like 10-15 main story quests.

Went from Darkshore to Ashenvale then to Barrens and got boat in Ratchet. I use map from WoW mini book that we got with CDs from classic box(If someone remember). I walk for maybe 2 weeks, i lost my path few times, met some people on road that they tell me where should i go and i was afraid as hell of dying cuz i was think that my character will die forever( I was noob, I was 9 year old, first MMORPG) WoW make unique emotions and experience that i can’t describe. This will be a very random comment. I am sitting here at 2:30 AM, working on my book project, while I listen to music that calms my mind and invokes fond memories. And I was struck by a strange feeling: My grandmother and I always had a special bond. I loved her deeply, and I miss her every day. She spent her final years with a dreadful case of Alzheimer's. Towards the end, she could no longer talk, or recognize her own husband or daughters, let alone me, her grandson. The last time I got to visit her before she died, I brought my guitar. At the time I was aspiring to become a musician, and did it more out of selfish interest because I wanted her to know what her grandson was doing. But I ended up mostly playing her songs that she had sung to me when I was a kid. And it was like a moment of magic. She would hum along, and cry tears of joy. The music spoke to her, and transcended the gaps of cognition. I never forgot it... And just now, it hit me that I imagine these pieces of music will likely be among those that I would be able to recall from beyond a faltering cognition of my own, should a similar fate one day befall me. Memory is a strange thing. Still, the comments on this video tell me that I am not alone in feeling this way. We all grew up since those days, back in vanilla. But the memory will stay with us forever. And if you read this, I wish you well

Guys, I have the exact same feeling of burning nostalgia when I hear this music. This game has become childhood memories: comforting, soothing. It should teach us that we are all part of the same thing, that the only thing we inspire to is to cooperate, to evolve, to interact, to create stories with one another. WOW is an inspiration to something else, not an end in itself. Much love to everyone.

I see many of us are nostalgic for these simpler times. We didnt know how good we had it at the time, but at least we had it. I feel a lot of teenagers now will never have a gaming experience as we did in the early WoW days. I cant imagine they'll be looking up the soundtracks to "modern warfare 2 remastered" in 15 years and almost tearing up..I sometimes think about playing again, but I know the game too well. The magic was real, but I suspect it is gone. I think that could be why listening to this music strikes such a chord for us. Just typing this I remember a time when I was levelling my first character, with no knowledge of mods, forums or even thottbot and I accidently stumbled into Burnings Steps through Red Ridge Mountains (i think..). I was utterly panicked seeing all the level ?? enemies. I somehow died and resurrected at the graveyard in Burning Steps. A druid saw me, invited me to a party and escorted me back to Red Ridge. At the time I had so many questions, I couldnt wait to be that high of a level myself! Now sadly I know where burning steps is, and what level i should be to quest there...

I never really played WoW in its glory vanilla days of the mid-2000s when I was in college, but when I started playing Final Fantasy XIV in 2021 I experienced a lot of the same "feels" that my friends who played WoW vanilla had. I'm sure a lot of teenagers around the world are still discovering WoW (retail & classic) alongside other major MMOs like FF14, ESO, or even Guild Wars 2 and having strong mental associations formed between the music and their gameplay experiences. I know when I stopped playing FF14 to start a new job, I tuned in to a random streamer playing FF14 a year later and the music hit me with such a strong wave of nostalgia that I almost cried from the good memories. And that was after being away from the game for only a year. I can only imagine how profound the nostalgia must be for people who played WoW almost two decades ago when they hear this music.

This track for me reminds me of (and really captures) the magic and wonder of playing this for the first time in 2005 on a PC with Windows XP professional on it. I was 25 at the time. I love to reminisce about those days and remember the feeling I had when I played it for the first time. Sometimes, I wish I could go back in time and relive some of them magical moments just for a little while although I wouldn't want to go back permanently because there was alot of BS that happened during those days in my life as well. One of my many memories I had of playing this was when my older brother and I were grouped together and we were in Ironforge (or Lagforge as it was in my case back then). At the time I had an Athlon 1.2Ghz Processor and maybe around 256mb or 512mb of DDR Ram (I can't remember exactly how much it was. But, it was somewhere in that ballpark.) and an ATI All-In-One Wonder 9500 video card. The performance in Ironforge was so bad that it looked like a slide show going at about 1 frame every 2 or 3 (or more seconds). We had cable internet where I was living at the time. I got so frustrated that I said to my brother in Party Chat that I was done playing this, my computer couldn't handle it and my brother said, "Come on, we're gettin' the hell outta here!" and we left Ironforge out into Dun Morogh and my performance improved. :) I later went on to upgrade to an Athlon 2.0Ghz processor and more ram in my machine. My performance got alot better in-game. :)

0:01 The opening gets me every time. The suspense of the violins, followed by the flute, the harp...just incredible. When I started playing Wow back in Vanilla, my first character was a dwarf warrior, so the music from the Elwynn Forest was not the first music I heard. Eventually shortly after I started with Wow, I ended up in Elwynn, played a human, and fell in love with the music. I have to say that, this and the Dun Morogh music are simply the ones that bring out the best memories and emotions from those times. Shortly after TBC came out, I went Horde. But it never felt the same. Horde zones also have great music, but I always missed the music from those places that introduced me to the game. Even to this day, I come back to Elwynn every once in a while, just for the music and the feeling. But it's kind of sad to realize that we can never get those times again, we can attempt to relive them, but the people, the memories, the experiences, the innocence... all that stuff that came as first stepped in WoW, we can never get back. Enjoy your time today, right now, because in 5, 10, 15 years you will think about it and will want to transport yourself back to this time, and wish you were back to this time at some point in your life. But that time will be gone, to live only in your memories.
