We're an American couple in Oaxaca, Mexico for Dia de Muertos. Our shenanigans might be a bit too much!
►Start your free trial at: www.rocketlang...
Last year, we traveled to Aguascalientes to experience this Mexican holiday. For 2019, we decided to visit Oaxaca City, Oaxaca. In this travel video, we tried to visit a catrina event only to find out we went to a festival of altars. Later, we discover the Artisan Fair (Feria Artesanal) and attempt to pronounce Oaxaca town names as we learn more about textiles, crafts, products, and candies.
We truly disrupt Oaxaca by attempting to find the pumpkin seed vendor. Later, we get cooped up inside a great Oaxacan restaurant due to the rain. If all these things aren't how to get kicked out of Oaxaca....well, we don't know what is. ;)
HOW TO REDEEM OUR SPANISH PROMOTION
To take advantage of our special offer with Spanish & Go, follow these steps:

ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world-starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our KZbin channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

You guys did a good job when noting it’s “Día de muertos”. Oaxaca it’s paradise even for Mexicans. Alebrijes are a rare and exquisite art representation. I have a couple. Thank you so much for putting Oaxaca out there in the map of your social content. Don’t worry about the tourist traps. Even Mexicans get scammed. Loved your “calabaaaaza “ shout!!!! I've got to congratulate the both of ya with your spanish and also Maddie's excellent pronunciation of the indigenous names of the towns and cities in Oaxaca! From the hilarious antics of Jordan,lol.....poking his head through that giant lotería card of 'El Diablo', then poking his head through that Catrina's body, lmao: "Jordan in a dress" and where Jordan sits next to that kalaca couple and bears his pearly whites! And continuing with the natural beauty of Maddie, augmented all the more with that crown of marigolds and the bright green and orange dress, finishing off with the yummy cocktails and food of Zandunga, oh and not to forget the shouting of "Semillas de Calabasa" by Jordan, totally embarassing dear Maddie! We are not sure how much time to spend in each area so I think we are just going to split it 6 nights in each. We may retire in one or the other one day. End of November till early December looks like a good time to visit both. I know you guys are super busy but any tips are welcome. Thanks from NC! Ronnie and Piri

Hello! It's a nice time of year. I think splitting up your time between each place is a good idea. In Guadalajara, I'd recommend looking for a rental in Colonia Americana (Americana neighborhood). Or you could stay at the hotel where our friend Andy stayed in this video for $40 USD per night: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnTOeaipfN-WnLc As for Ajijic, if it's in your budget, Villas del Angel is great. If it's not in your budget, try finding a rental within the Ajijic city limits.

Día de muertos in Spanish. You got it correctly in the video, what you know is based on a direct (bad) translation to English. Even in Spanish is not common to have these kind of phrases without preposition, as a matter of fact, I can't think of any other situation where is written like that 🤷‍♂️

It is a slight grammar difference that gives another meaning. "Día de Muertos" is a composed proper noun in which the important word is "day" with the adjective "de-muertos". "Día de los muertos" is a whole sentence in which "los muertos" is the important thing and it would be referring to specific dead people. Pretty much like when you say "semillas de calabaza" which is a noun being "semillas" the main concept with the adjective "de-calabaza". In "semillas de la calabaza" we are talking about seeds from a specific pumpkin.

dia de muertos and dia de los muertos both phrases are used by mexicans and its kind of like an ongoing debate, so from what i have seen (my husband is from mexico born and raised) both phrases can be used for the day of the dead....so neither one is wrong.

Es todo un tema ese de los gritos de los vendedores ambulantes. Cada colonia en Mexico tiene los suyos. Aunque siempre hay unos más conocidos que otros.
