Fixed the only two things I didn't enjoy when using Ember myself: Offloading from camera directly was painful (camera down time) and SDI (round HDMI). Winning!

YES!!! SDI!!!!!!!!!!

YEEESSS!!!! One of the biggest challenges with the Ember was the lack of ability to swap media for long events and stuff. This is a big deal. Exciting stuff. Edit: Oh bummers just saw that it can’t offload from the internal drive to the external. That makes no sense. That’s the primary advantage of a system like this. Should have troubleshot that.

I think they won’t add that featute. Because if it can offload from the internal drive to the external, then we will just buy one drive 😂

The main purpose of the external drive is that you can record directly/continuously to it for instant playback or offload. We do understand why you could want to offload from internal to external, and have added it to our list for future updates! Thanks for supporting Ember, and we are glad you are excited about this!

@@freeflysystems this would be a great solution for FPVs or remote heads where you dont want to remove the camera all the time but need to save weight. We mount Ember stripped down on top of FlightHead as a second camera to a Alexa or Venice as the main. So we get normal and slowmo footage at the same time. De-rigging those and balancing takes time. You could just pop the SSD into the module and offload fast and then go back to lightweight solution again. Same on Ronin RS4 Pro... make it happen!

Stoked about sdi as an option, as well as being able to make a quick switch between different storage setups! Hate to complain immediately but I would have loved to see a higher resolution output for the S5K though, even if only during playback for example. I've only rented the S5K a couple of times so far but I've had to do a full reshoot because many shots were out of focus and I couldn't tell during the shoot, as using 2x/4x crop on a 4K-capable field monitor doesn't reveal any more details with the 1080p signal. I also loop the output through to a 19" Atomos Sumo monitor for the director/talent to watch, and kept getting questions from them if the quality was going to be high enough, as the 1080p on the large 4K monitor really didn't give them confidence and casted doubts about the quality of my work. Again hate to be immediately shitting on all of your hard work, I'm still stoked to at some point be able to buy my own S5K and build out a kit with these new components!

This request has been heard along with other improvements we can add to ember and are working to get them into future updates. We want a higher-res preview for monitoring as well!

@freeflysystems Thanks a lot for replying, I'm very much looking forward to what you'll be able to do and again very thankful for all the hard work your team has already put in it so far! Actually I was thinking if it could be a possible solution to get a punch-in crop feature within the camera interface (that uses the full res signal as the source, not just scaling up the 1080p image). That way the hardware signal from the hdmi/sdi port can stay at 1080p, but you'd enable a way to view the shot at 100% scale so you can nail the focus with confidence. I wouldn't mind if this weren't possible during recording, or if this preview runs at a reduced framerate because it requires more processing or something like that. This workflow obviously has some downsides, especially with the limited navigation with the scrollwheel it would add some complexity, but it would add a crazy amount of value and confidence for me. Actually one of the main reasons for me not purchasing my own S5K yet is the feeling that at some point you would release an updated model that doesn't have this 1080p limitation, which would remove a very large barrier for me.
