It was just a short-term thing only used when necessary. Trump changed it into an intentional program to permanently separate kids from their parents as a deterrent to scare immigrants away. But they didn’t announce that they were doing it beforehand. They just started separating every kid from their parents. But it backfired and Trump eventually rescinded the policy because it was so offensive. Some of those kids have never gotten back to their parents because the program was so poorly run. So the reporter was right and Jr was wrong. And it was an easy question if Jr wasn’t an idiot. All he had to say is that they weren’t going to do anything like that and politely excuse himself from the interview. But that sort of thing takes at least half a brain.
