It’s 3:30 am and just scrolled into your room and have loved every minute of the wax paper embossing. Since I was a child, I knew what wax paper was and I’m 76! Wax paper is kind of a “staple” in my kitchen and craft room. It’s sold in most grocery stores etc. Thank you for the lesson. I have no idea when you’re on or from where you’re teaching!

I am a child of the 50s and my mother used to wrap our sandwiches for our school lunch with wax paper. Then they came out with sandwich bags made from wax paper and then we finally got plastic wrap. It’s in the grocery store where all the sandwich bags and plastic wrap are.

Wax paper will not hurt your iron it helps it slide on fabric. .Years ago if you had to clean a scorched iron you would clean it and then run it over wax paper to make it glide and then run it over a towel to clean off excess wax so wouldn’t transfer to clothing.

There isn't enough wax on waxed paper any more to need to even run the iron over a towel to wipe the excess wax off.

The aspect I like about faux batik paper is that it is very easy to mass produce because it is so easy to compartmentalize. You can emboss a whole bunch of wax paper and then come back iron it weeks later. You can iron the wax design on to cardstock and wait to ink it. I have some that is actually five years old from a card class and it still resists ink no problem.

Love that gamsol effect for shading. This is my first time being able to see that done. I had watched a different video on that and seeing the results on that one, decided not to mess with it. You are making that absolutely beautiful! That wax paper technique is beautiful too. Such nice soft effects! Ilove colored pencils and that card with the black matting is absolutely gorgeous and elegant! Thanks for the video.

Hello from Ottawa,. Ontario, Canada. We have Cut-Rite Wax Paper in our grocery stores. It is a long-standing company as I remember my mom wrapping coins in this wax paper and putting it in our birthday cakes as a surprise when we were teens. Now she did warn us to watch for it when we ate the cake.... must be careful... I never did that and don't advise it, and when I had my son I did not carry on that tradition because it is not really a safe idea. I did use it for saving leaves like red and green maple leaves and silver birch leaves for craft projects.

I think I will try plain wax paper and gather it in the middle and have the wrinkles spread outward like a broken windshield or mirror. It might look sorta like a spiderweb and make a cute BOO card for halloween. Maybe even heat it around a wax candle to decorate the candle with the pattern. I love it when my brain starts working creatively.Thanks for the inspiration.

@SimplySix1

I think you may be right. What I can tell you for sure is that the older rolls were a heavier paper, for sure! My grandparents both just passed and we've been cleaning out their things and they have cleaning supplies and rolls of freezer paper, parchment, wax, cling, you name it... some are brands that I've never even heard of or seen before! lol But the cling wrap was certainly made better (except maybe the press and seal they have no. that stuff is kind of badass) but the wax paper was so much more heavy than it is today! It holds up better and I think it might be better suited to a job like this .Far less likely to tear or mess up and when you lay it on something it stays better vs fluttering all over the place. I have no idea how old this roll is that we have but it's the same brand as what I had to begin with and I've found receipts in the office dating back as far as the early 60s 😂😂

If I may say something. (I’ll explain why also) • Background: Me , I am Swedish by origin and after traveling around at least a part of the world. I felt what we call a ”Urging call”. I needed to go home and spend time with and learn from the older generation so that their knowledge would not be lost. I felt It was important that we learn from them that type of knowledge is more important than ever. That type of generation bypassing/over-bridging, is something very different from what is taught in schools, and modern society. It’s in a sense learning for something much larger than life. Great attention is placed in making sure the “ones who gets chosen to be a student” is of the right mind and heart. It would be beyond bad if the “student” was unable or lacked the empathy and care that is needed. Those teachings where empathy and care is important is the skill or should I say “The ability” to see the subtle things, the unseen and to find beauty in everything. Equally as important is : To be grateful for both good and bad, easy and tough, even if that is not always so easy. Most people think it’s just a feature of indigenous people but it’s not. Even if I have live not too far from the arctic circle). • How is this related to your tutorial? I have noted on several occasions, while watching, totally mesmerized by the treasure trove of genuinely skillfully created tutorials. There are very often what I call “Subtle teachings and gold nuggets of great importance and values”. They are never obvious. They hold more than what may be apparent, but they are precious. So Thank you for all the AMAZING tutorials you have done. • Everyday things that everyone has!! I think we all inadvertently think and, take our “reality”, and our “common household objects” (things we see everyday), as a “Norm”, for granted, and we assume it’s the same everywhere. • Buried firecracker, with implications. Actually here it is not just uncommon, it has heavy implications as well. To be correct I have to first reveal that here we actually dont have waxpapers here, they stopped manufacturing and using them a long time ago. But it has still to this day a very heavy social implications and a very negative association. That is because everywhere During the 1800, and in all places outside the biggest cities until end of the 1900s the children who was not bestowed with rich parents who could buy new books and donate to the school. All others (but it was much worse for the ones from what was called “plenty of children households ”). Literally meaning poor families with more then ten children, but very little money they had to “inherit” the books from older siblings. So it was said as a insult : -“ Aha!, you have wax paper on your books! • And what about Dryer sheets?: They tried to launch them here but they were seen as uneconomical, and only for lazy people. So the launch failed leading to that we dont have dryer sheet either. We only have bottles with dryer liquid. 😬😬😬 • Options? We have only parchment papers that you use when you make cookies. Any suggestion on anything that can work as a substitute. I know you had no idea about these things. In a sense it can be seen as a good reminder that what we take for granted, or see ascommon household objects might not be the same everywhere. • May I ask what did you use as material when you started doing cards and similar? Best wishes Anna
