Billy will never know i exist, However, his sketches have been a feature of my life for decades. He's almost like a family member ❤

My dad was so chuffed when he saw a comedian speaking Glaswegian on the BBC for the first time - Billy became compulsory viewing in our house from that day onward - I don't think my mum ever understood half of the words spoken by the Big Yin, but me and my dad would be roaring with laughter, and explaining the joke to my mum & my sister - like translators working at the UN He did a few sketches with Kenny Everett in the 1970's, before he started become a mainstream act on British TV - if you can find Billy & Kenny together, they are great pieces of comedy - and Kenny's Tv shows are well worth diving into as well

English comedian, Russell Howard, feels the same way about Billy. Russell's family love him like a family member, too. Russell talked about it on his TV show during a "covid" version of his TV show, where he got to interview his hero, Billy, too.

Yup - started off playing in a folk-rock duo with Gerry "Baker Street" Rafferty, called The Humblebums. Billy's songs were always lighter and more humorous, and he moved from being a funny songwriter to a comedian who sometimes played music. And what a great comedian!

If you ever get a chance, watch Billy and Albert, it's his original full stand up when he was selling out bigger gig's than rock bands. It's him at the Royal Albert Hall (1987). It's funny as shit. As classic as Robin Williams live at the Met.

As a Scot seen Billy once in Glasgow at a Celtic v Manchester Utd Testimonial match with Celtic players Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox in aid of them two great Celtic players way back in 70s ..Billy came out from tunnel at half time wearing a scarf of Celtics rivals Rangers and wearing them famous banana boots ..Until he fell to ground in fun and carried back up into tunnel all for crowds amusement and them Celtic fans all giving him stick for the wearing Rangers scarf lol Ye Billy was a very good musician and player of banjo and a very good Narrator of his programmes inc his American travel series and Route 66 in Usa was seen here in UK .Also was into a bit of fly fishing was Billy and just seemm a down to earth guy who done rather well for himself as a Comedian in which he done his apprecntice in the Shipyards in Glasgow . Always liked Billy . Never seen the quip before seems from that show in Usa one day i shall .

Billy is a pretty good dramatic actor, too. He was in one of the X-Files movies. More recently I saw him in a British drama where David Tennant played one of his sons. I'm sure someone in the comments will know the name of the movie. I just can't remember it right now. He was also in the U.S. sitcom Head of the Class years ago, but that's not really a stretch for him, unless you count him not being allowed to be as funny as he is with his stand up.
@lynnejamieson2063 Жыл бұрын
The only film I can think of that has David Tennant playing Billy Connolly's son, is What We Did On Our Holiday. Which is a great film but it's a comedy (with a touch of dark humour) not a drama.

1:11 The body does know what it's doing. The older you get, the more you can easily sniff out pure BS from people who open their mouths and speak. The longer hairs grow so as to take the edge off slightly. Just enough to call it out with a rational mind and not be overpowered.

I used to find Billy Connolly hilarious. Until he made a joke about a guy from my hometown who, at the time, was a prisoner of an Islamic extremist group and about to be executed (which he was. He had his head removed and the whole thing was filmed). Connolly joked about footage of the man pleading for his life and said to his audience, "Aren't you the same as me? Don't you wish they would just get on with it?! lol" and after sniggering, one of the crowd shouted "You're talking about a man's life, Billy!", to which he responded by saying, "F*** off!" and he was promptly booed and later condemned in the press because of it. Pretty much killed his career off until he got sick and everyone started feeling sorry for him. I'm not a bitter man but he lost all my respect that day and as such I have zero sympathy for his illness, as he is yet to show remorse for what he said
@dallassukerkin6878 Жыл бұрын
That's what comedians do, surely? They test the boundaries of good taste talk about the dreadful things that occur to us in the silence of our heads as barely civilised simians. If a comedian offends you that is, at source, something within yourself that causes the reaction. To explain. For example, I cannot abide the likes of Chubby Brown; despicable, low 'humour' that I find offensive - I think that's because of the strict Christian upbringing I had, with a side order of very old-fashioned good manners and politeness. But, regardless, the reaction is from me not him ... and other folk find him hilarious. I don't go to his shows or buy his material and I am perfectly happy and, I presume, he couldn't care less about my disapproval :)
