Fire fighting has been a relevant topic of ALL times.
@williambrasky38912 ай бұрын
I think I see what you’re getting at, and aerial fire fighting is especially important today. Not only due to changing weather patterns as a result of climate change (I’m sorry bud, but the entire world has just gone 3 summers in a row with record temperatures. It’s been over 100 degrees here nearly every day, whereas, when I was growing up, I remember getting excited when a 100+ degree day came around because it was such a rarity. Denying it was silly. Now it’s downright delusional. Come to terms with that). On top of less consistent rains and longer, hotter droughts caused by climate change, aerial firefighting fleets around the world are aging out of service. Most firefighting aircraft were surplus from WWII and The Cold War. The long period of relative peace after the fall of the Soviet Union meant the world’s militaries stopped building so many aircraft. As aircraft became more & more complex, raw numbers produced had been generally declining every decade from the end of WWII. All this combined meant less and less surplus aircraft available for fire fighting. So, right as demand for aerial firefighting aircraft is reaching new heights, supply of aircraft suitable to perform that role has never been lower. That alone is enough to mean future demand for aerial firefighting aircraft will only grow from where it is today. No matter how you cut it, you’re just wrong. Firefighting aircraft are more relevant today than in the past. Instead of acting smart while being stupid, you could try just being smart, like me. Now, I took the time to explain to you why you’re wrong, this time. Don’t expect others to be so generous with their time. Next time you’re about to say something you feel is smart, search for all the ways you might be wrong. You’re going to need to be humble enough to admit you may not have as good of a grasp on a subject as once thought, but as long as you do that you’ll slowly learn how to be less dumb. It’s a win for everybody.

A nice new aircraft, the large cockpit windows do indeed make it looking smaller than the actual size without a reference next to it. But the load capacity is surprisingly high for the size too. The C-160 Transall is not much smaller but has a much lower capacity, range, speed and service ceiling. it was a plane of the 60s after all. The cockpit looks very modern and clean. Good to hear that the Netherlands is replacing its aging C-130 fleet with these which will give better performance at lower exploitation costs. Army transports make probably the most flying hours of all military planes with maybe the exception of the coast guard.

@miscbits63992 ай бұрын
@genebohannon8820 MD11s can't be rapidly loaded/unloaded using ground level equipment and I'm thinking of things like Convair CV580 size (7 ton payload), which are used by a lot of regional couriers but getting extremely long in the tooth In one case I'm aware of, one of these was replaced with a A320F for capacity reasons, although the operator would have preferred an aircraft with faster turnaround which would have enabled 2 route circuits/day instead of one with bigger capacity but which could only make 1 circuit
@thedumbaviator55362 ай бұрын
@@genebohannon8820 Brazil has actually a really developed aviation industry, and is the country with the 2nd most airports.
@justforever96Ай бұрын
Yes, I'm sure none of the guys who do that for a living and spend billions of dollars buying equipment have ever thought of that or considered the costs and risks involved. Good thing you are smarter then they are, you should send them an email, maybe they need to hear that. Aviation is a very complex business and there are a ton of considerations when it comes to purchasing new equipment. It's extremely expensive, you have to get it right. Initial cost will be higher for a smaller volume, maintenance costs are usually higher on military aircraft. They have they specific range and payload requirements. The cost of the aircraft is negotiated with each contract, and larger companies can afford to take a loss to gain or keep clients, the maintenance and service package is a huge part of the contract. If they aren't competitive in that aspect, being slightly easier to load cargo isn't going to outweigh the other considerations. They also rarely have any need for rough field operation or short field, so all of that capacity is just extra weight and expense as far as commercial lines are concerned. They don't need a military jet, which is designed to do things commercial jets can't. Which costs money. There is a reason cargo lines haven't been using C-5s or C-130s. Only very specialized lines which fly into rugged areas need stuff like that. And you can get a very cheap 737 that can fly into gravel airfields and take any standard pallets. How is this better? Because it is slightly easier to load it? If a plane like this made any sense it would be for carrying _non_ standard cargo thst can't fit into a normal cargo jet, or flying into really remote fields. None of that has a very big demand. Most lines are just trucking pallets between big airports, and they put a lot of thought into reducing costs as much as they can. If they are going to buy this, they would have already.

This aircraft (or at least the civil version) would find a lot of use during the summer months serving locations in Canada and Alaska which are otherwise only accessible during the winter months via trucks running on roads made of packed snow and/or frozen over lakes (made famous by the Discovery channel show "Ice Road Truckers"). Even during the winter months they would be useful in this niche, because they would allow things like evacuating injured people to areas with better medical facilities, or you could turn one into a flying hospital/operating room and do the whole "if the patient can't go to the hospital, bring the hospital to the patient" tactic. I can see a lot use in that second idea even in the US, particularly after things like tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters wreak havoc on the existing facilities even if the people that would usually staff those facilities are unharmed (a surgeon needs a hospital in order to operate, after all, and the natural disasters are very able to just wipe even a hospital off the map, especially with global warming only pumping more energy into hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and landslides, which is basically any natural disaster that's not an earthquake or volcanic eruption, so it's the majority of all of them). Not to mention that these would probably find a decently sized niche in the USA serving lower volume airports with air freight, for instance my city has an airport that can handle 737's and that sort of plane but there's not enough passenger traffic so it's instead served (not very frequently) by smaller jets instead. This C-390 (or at least the civil version) would probably be the perfect size for the air freight needs of my city, and is already well served with a sufficiently large road to handle heavy truck traffic from that airport to the city proper, so it would make sense for UPS or another cargo carrier to set up a facility at that airport.

Have you worked up in Arctic Alaska? You seem to be very knowledgeable on this subject. I’m just wondering because I worked in the Alaska oil fields and along the pipeline for 33 years and I don’t see a practical use for these. There are already established runways and helicopters available all across the North Slope. There are also established air freight services. I also spent a couple years traveling around Alaska for my job. Another thing is this is to expensive. Air freight planes are older 737s and DC-9s for flying freight to bush hubs. They could never make a profit paying for a new plane.

Over the years, seeing more and more competent work from them... well it adds up (and I mean competent in the best way possible... if I was going for "well, it works" I would use "adequate"). These days when I hear their name my reaction is generally something positive along the lines of "oh hey, what are they up to now". edit: Yeah, it does look a little small without additional context, but I wouldn't call it unsightly. Its kind of cute tbh. edit 2: For what its worth; I'm from the US. In terms of weapons, like infantry rifles, cruisers or fighters, ideally we should be making those ourselves. But when it comes to other things, such as vehicles used for logistics, there is much to be gained by taking a good serious look at what other countries are offering. Another example to go along with this jet/company would be the South Korean shipbuilding industry. I don't want them building American destroyers, but their ability to build the more mundane ships that are essential is perhaps the best in the world.

She's just missing the wingtip extensions. She'd make a great special operations transport and "fast gunship". The armament for the gunship could include two M134 mini guns and one M61 20mm cannon along with night vision and targeting avionics.

Some people believe that Embraer wanted to insinuate that its C-390 aircraft is three times better than the C-130, but this is not true. Embraer has a code for its projects with 3 digits, the 1st is '1' for commercial models (examples 190 or 195) and '3' for military models (examples 314 Super Tucano and 390 Millennium), the '90' for C-390 is probably due to the fact that initially the idea was to use the wing of the EMB-190 (to reduce costs and time for launch), which was soon discarded for a wing of a completely new design, optimized for a military multi-mission aircraft.

No they think it's 22.9x better than the C-17. Arrogant bastards!

The Hercules is a great aircraft……wow. The Hercules was invented/innovated in 1955 or was that the B-52? The C-130 is such a legend it would be hard to replace it as it is a flying legend! I think our Airforce has ordered new C-130’s, Love to Brazil from the smallest most isolated most beautiful country in the World, New Zealand!

Both Lockheed and Airbus, to my knowledge, have nothing in this segment and Boeing…….well, let’s not go there. Embraer has a hit on its hands.

As a brazilian, it's too good to see Embraer got this level of excellence with a cargo plane. All the word is stretching his arms out to grab a KC-399. So proud I am.

Great video, as usual. Two notes, first, the C-17 definitely still trains and uses thrust reversers in tactical descents. Second, "suite" is pronounced like "sweet". Insignificant to the quality of the video, which I enjoyed very much. Thank you!

I'm convinced; if I need a Military cargo aircraft or a private jet - I think C390 Embraer would be a great pick it has a fantastic ferry range. Who needs a bespoke interior when you can just use stock couches and ratchet straps!

Lockheed & Boeing would never allow it. Look at what happened when Merlin won the presidential chopper contract & Airbus the Tanker one. Both over turned despite being build in the USA by US workers.

Japan is extremely closed and they hide all information, so the outside world thinks they only make good stuff. But in reality, the C-2 has many problems, such as fuselage cracks.

As an American I can confidently say that Lockheed would spend millions to develop their own light jet transport rather than let the C-390 into the United States. They might try to even get laws or tariffs on foreign aircraft instated.

They’ve lost every foreign sale they’ve competed for with the C-130J against the C-390 over the last year. The C-130 is done and Lockheed has nothing new in the pipeline.
