This is very fascinating! I hadn't heard of this before until watching a recent vintage crochet video. Someone had mentioned it in the comments.

Glad you came across this new technique, yeah Tambour is essentially a tiny crochet hook.
@TheCraftyWitchUK2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. I completed a Silk Fan Bookmark from VIP Cross Stitch on my channel but it wasn’t as tidy as yours. I think because I wasn’t using the same needle as you. I have now got myself a hook and will be sure to give it another go ASAP 💜

Hello! thanks for your comment:) yeah i find it easier to do with a tambour hook cause its what i use for most of my embroidery work. But it can definitely be done with just a regular needle, i think the trick it to made sure the fabric it nice and tight( so a good hoop is important) and making the stitches as tight and close together as possible.

That is amazing work. you have inspired me to try tambour embroidery. Would you be prepared to let me know were you bought your metal bookmark fan from please.
@OlsjonaEmbroidery3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! I bought it on eBay a while ago. You can use any kind of hollow metal charm or pendant to create something similar. Or you can simply use metal wire to create your own shape.

Lovely! In less than 10 minutes you resolved questions I've had about tambour work for 3 dimensional objects. THANX!!! What do you do about those open snags in the clothe around the edges of the fan? I haven't gotten to the end yet, so maybe my question is answered at the end? 🤔🤔🤔
@OlsjonaEmbroidery Жыл бұрын
Thank you!🥰 Just more the fibres around by scratching the surface with a needle of pin, that should take care of most of the open spaces. If not cover with sequins or beads

This is really pretty, but.... could you please explain to me how is it that during the video the material looks like is about to fall apart but once you show the fan at the end the material looks different somehow, softer with no holes or rips?
@OlsjonaEmbroidery2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!💕Its normal for the fabric to look a bit distressed when doing so may tiny stitches. You can get rid of most of it by simply scratching the area with your needle to the yarns go back in place.

Your end product is much different from the demo finished product. On the demo, you can see how the fabric started tearing almost from the outset all the way around the inside edge. I was wondering how you would cover that, but the project you show in the end has none of that tearing.
@OlsjonaEmbroidery Жыл бұрын
Its not tearing, you can just move the fibres of the fabric back in place by just lightly scratching the surface of the fabric with your needle or a pin. It may look like big holes are in the fabric when I’m stitching, but its just cause I’ve zoomed in alot. You can always use a thicker fabric if your afraid of tearing, but I promise the end product in the video is the result of what i did in the demo
