Have you considered the Emerald Amicus? It’s basically a mini 12 String minus the octave strings. Kind of like a cross between a Mandolin/Autoharp in sound. Nice wide neck too. Amazing Guitar. I also have a Emerald Doubleneck 6/12 Acoustic. The only downside is that I need to mute the neck that I am not playing with a terry cloth hair band to keep it from sympathetically ringing.

Amicus seems like a very cool 12 string. Is the peghead weight noticeable?

Hi Jim. Great video. Im wondering if you have played an Emerald x20 12 string? If so how does it compare to your x30?
@JimKozel2 ай бұрын
Thanks. I have not yet played an X20 12-string. Emerald has a few sound comparison videos posted. The X20 will have a 14th fret body join vs the 12th fret on the X30.

@ I ended up going with the x20-12. The sales guy said the x20 was his favorite and hard to beat. Man it was a tough decision though. Your x30 sounds amazing. Wish there were more independent reviews of the Emerald 12 strings out there.

Does the partial capo need to be specifically for a 12-string guitar? Maybe not, as I'm struggling to find one
@JimKozel9 ай бұрын
Most partial capos will work on a 12-string provided the spring is strong enough. Placement is a bit more important because you're capoing 3 strings + the octave strings. Try a Kyser partial capo. I use either a Kyser or my preferred capo a G7th brand partial capo.

@@JimKozel Thanks for responding - I’ll look for one of those options

I like the headstone, bridge and sound port but not the carbon fibre body.

I'd love one if I had an extra 3 grand to spend on it...unfortunately I'm stuck in the 500 dollar Guild range😐

The good news is that the sub $1k Guild 12-strings are very very good. Check out the one I'm playing in my Don't Choke Your 12-string video.

Do you think the emerald x30-12 sound good enough to use for studio recording? Does its tone sound good compared to a Guild? Also, do you know which current Guild 12 strings have carbon fiber rods in the neck?

Any Emerald is good enough for studio recording in my opinion. Stellar quality, playability and tone. The X30-12 tone speaks for itself. I think it's pointless to compare Guild to Gibson to Martin to Emerald and so on. They all have their unique voices. I've owned Guild 12-strings. The Westerly, RI Guilds are particularly nice. They each have a voice all their own. The X30 has a very lush, full sound. The X30-12 is hands down the most playable and comfortable 12-string I've ever owned. And it just stays in tune.
