46:50 in regards to "maybe more people will go to locals". I was going fairly regularly until the shutdown but haven't played a constructed game since set 4 dropped (I did do drafts for a few weeks). The thing is, I've never played a single game of pixelborn. What the shutdown did was make it so I'm no longer watching savjz stream while I play runterra. Or checking out some new offmeta deck somebody posted to KZbin on my lunch break. I simply don't really engage with the game outside of the weekly local. This makes it so when I'm deciding what to do with my Saturday I'm way less in l inclined to go play lorcana when I fully haven't thought about it for a week. I'm just saying the loss of pixelborn content removes the games day to day engagement which will hurt overall interest and attendance with locals.

I play meta decks but without a doubt it is funner to play decks with more variance with friends. It’s cool seeing tons of lines and cards vs the same openings 8/10 games. Doesn’t have to be a whacky deck, just not a play set of Diablo type deck

In my experience as a majority E/S player. If you are on the play, the ursula 2 drop is the better play to snipe the OJA or HFIG. The follow up ursula or bucky into discard can run them out before they hit the critical point of 7 ink more often. The bucky play is sometimes okay but more often than not they can ramp to 8 and keep a card and just sisu and proceed to out top deck the em/st player.

I’m disappointed in Moyen and Kawa!! How are you going to let Brendan call “Remember Who You Are” unplayable?? Did neither of you realize they put Hearthstone’s Divine Favor in Lorcana? I think the card has a lot of potential in a hyper aggro Emerald deck we haven’t seen yet

Spilled ink: hello guys, I am going to Bochum this weekend. In the Swiss rounds, would you, if you have the choice, choose to go first in game 1 or second. In my opinion going second in game 1 gives you more information on what to mulligan in game 2. However, if the game takes so long you can't finish game 2, that is also a problem then. Or do you just say, does not matter because you need to win both anyways... would like to hear your thoughts and maybe see you there

There is no Lorcana scene in my country and the only shop the sells cards in my city doesn't even have the cards to sell. It's just a dead game here and the only way for me to play the game and enjoy it was online. With Pixelborn down, I just can't play the game anymore. Tried to find anyone that ships cards here but the shipping costs more than the box and that's not even guranteed I'll get it... it's just doomed

A lot of casual players want to play for fun with the chance to win stuff. Playing against meta all the time sucks to casuals so I think its cool your store seperated the 2 with their own day.

I really only have one main local LGS each week. I personally alternate weeks between a meta deck and something off beat. I tend to really enjoy those off weeks. Keeps those meta decks honest. Surprise folks with brooms or evasives or something.

Brendan's opinion on removal is interesting. I'm on the other camp, removal is already so overpowered that any deck not running one of the removal Inks (Ruby or Steel) simply isn't meta viable. Look at all 4 Tier S decks - all of them run either Ruby or Steel. Most Ink combinations can't be played as they lack removal. If you made removal like Magic it would absolutely ruin the game as you simply couldn't keep a character on the board - much like what happens in Magic where creatures die to a random gust of wind. What Raven's need to do is give proper removal options to other Inks as well, or make Steel an "universal" Ink.

@@alfredosaint-jean9660 I guess I should have said "prevalent" instead of overpowered. I want other colors to have viable removal. Not stronger, just more spread out, not just Ruby and Steel. Otherwise you have the situation we have now, which is 4 meta decks which have to include either Ruby or Steel because running without removal is a no-go.

Man I really hope this next set really shakes the game up with new mechanics and I’m hoping new card types like multi colored or neutral cards. I get wanting to spread powerful cards between colors but as of right now a color like blue for instance is to focused on items to the point where if you ban or take away Hiram blue is unplayable. They need to add more cards that steer away from this issue. Need different looks for decks maybe lean more on me mechanics tribal and Archtypes.

Everything you said about Pixelborn is so true. The visible effects of the shutdown even just weeks later you can feel it in content creation and interest in the overall game. Webcam games are fine and it's great to have that option but man it's just so much more cumbersome when that's your only options if you can't make it to or don't have a local scene.

I have seen the same effect at my local league night we used to fit at one table and now we use 4 because our player count has increased I can’t say that is the case everywhere but that is my local experience

Great content, but as a newer TCG player, Lorcana being my first, I didn’t understand the comps to flesh and blood. For newer players, might be good to clarify a bit more on some points or at least comp to Lorcana singles/mechanics

A thing I realized while trying to build a deck for Bochum in the last month was that my card choices are extremely focused on the existence of Brawl then Bucky. Cards with 2 or even 3 attack (thanks to iceblock) are such a shortlives I often try to put something else in, even if this card I chose to skip would fit perfectly with everything else. Because Brawl is in every ruby deck and for real: until set 4, there always was the area of ink 1 until ink 5 that was at least save to play your cards against ruby so the game always came out to be a race. That was very frustrating and annoying. Now, they have brawl turn 3 that can kill SO MANY cards for ridiculously 3 ink that can even be inked and is no song to discard with ursula etc. Its horrible.

Love the podcast, thanks for the hardwork covering the topics. As you touched on, at my locals we’ve seen a lot of our player base drop off because they found it unenjoyable playing against meta decks and good players. As you said, my response to those players was that I’m equally allowed to play a better deck as they are to play with a terrible one. Is it common to see this drop off/ do you think with some of the target player base being Disney fans that this will be more common for Lorcana? I’m really enjoying the game but there’s a concern around those left that we might slowly see the community die out for this reason l

It's ok to want to play the game against more than 3 different decks. Not everyone is prepping for a challenge event.

Hey guys! Question about mechanics in other TCGs. Do any TCGs that you know of allow a “1 of” a copy of a card you aren’t allowed to play? For a Lorcana example if you were running Ruby Amethyst you’d be allowed 1 copy of AWNW (or some other card from a color thats not red or purple). Is that maybe too broken? I feel like every non-ruby deck would just run a be prep lol

Bucky is just a toxic card for non competitive players because sweaty players play it on LGS nights against people playing Dalmatian decks lol. In competitive scene, it literally just comes down to RNG. It’s just a P2W deck haha.

For real, bucky is a luck game instead of other decks. First, you can try to build countermeasures against it. And yes, not every color has those. So my way to prepare is steel as a color and then I built 2 decks with steel and blue/green. Both can easily erase bucky or diablo and have options to refill your hand, like a whole new world. And now the big point in my opinion who tried to play bucky decks in different versions: if you dont have Bucky on your starting hand or draw him fast enough, your screwed. Floddborns like aladdin or djafar are extremely slow and underwhelming without bucky on board and have very low impact. The deck is extremely slow in getting lore and cant compete if you cant erase the hand of the enemy without bucky. So, when you can get far enough in the tournament, its because of luck to always have bucky on turn 2 and diablo on turn 3. Thats my opinion at least. Well yes, when i tried about 50 games with bucky, I got very bad draw luck... Who wants to do thiss, well, go for it and try your luck. I rather play a skill based deck like I tried to built now. Im playing emerald steel and blue steel in a very uncommon way and hope to have the surprise adventage and hope that my idea kicks in like a bomb haha. Its more fun this way then winning everything thanks to pure luck and playing the boring floodborn curve for me. But it doenst mean Bucky has to be banned for sure. There are a kot more cards Im annoyed to play against for sets like hiram, medusa, tremaine, be prepared, maui.... Well yeah, all of them arr in red. Strange. Nobody whined about banning ONE OF THESE. And they interrupt me playing my deck exactly like bucky is doing now. So, I think this is an exhausting topic

Guys, Pavel straight up was encouraging IP infringement. Let it go. He might be the loveliest guy around, bottom line he shouldn't have done Pixelborn at all, it wasn't his game / IP to exploit. It contributed to the community but now has the negative effect that people identify Lorcana as having an electronic component as part of it's ecosystem, which was never Ravensburger's plan. TL;DR Pixelborn was a positive in the short term, a negative in the long term.

@@patrickmcclain5692 casual players didnt play PB. I see their argument, but they also benefitted from playing hundreds / thousands of matches more. So the playing field ends up being equal. As far as the meta… people are just really uncreative and netdeck. PB didnt change that.

@ghostknight1865 PB didn change that. Net decking was more prominent because of pixelborn and the ability to test decks more rapidly. You can't really say what casual and not casual players played. Anyone semi competitive played pixelborn and if not they still net decked from decks tested on pixelborn. It's not like they came up with their ideas from thin air.
