Awesome 👍 I donate food to food banks too. After losing my job almost 3 years ago, it’s a cause very close to my heart. (I have a job now, it’s just easy to forget how close you are to the bottom of life sometimes) and it serves to remind me 🙂

Generous of you to offer your monthly income from KZbin to a charity helping those in need. Great ideas here, but one note as some without power may have no water; or the recipes would depend on bottled water storage. I’m in NE Ohio and years ago, a tornado-like storm came through and we were without power for almost 2 weeks. Had to clean the fridge/freezer out. We cooked meats over a man made campfire - ate some, but gave much to neighbors. That felt so good to do this! God bless.

I love this! I can’t wait to try the refried bean soup thickener trick next time I make tortilla soup! Love this kind of video. In my hometown, we have a “blessing box” that’s open to the public to use and we’re able to place shelf-stable items in the box so that anyone in need can help themselves. I am going to use a few of these ideas to put MEAL blessings in the box with cards on how to prepare; something I’d never thought of until this video. Thank you for the inspiration ❤️

I can remember when I was younger hurricane fredric devastated the town I lived in Bayou La Batre. Food came in for everyone from all over. My mom took those boxed Au Gratin potatoes and put canned ham in them. It was very good and very filling....that or we were just very hungry...lol. But to this day use them for a pork chop casserole.

A can of mushrooms, instant rice, cream of chicken or mushrooms and a can of chicken heated in a pot makes a nice little meal. Rice a roni (any flavor) with chopped tomatoes, corn and peas makes another meal.

When you mentioned "more is not more", keep in mind that if you don't have power, you don't have refrigeration. While a larger package is usually a better value, if you can't properly store the remainder, it will be wasted. I love that you are doing this and donating your proceeds to important causes!

I come from the South Carolina coast line and every year during hurricane season we usually lose electricity (or worse). When your freezer and fridge are struggling to stay cold from lack of electric, you pretty much leave the doors closed to preserve the cold and eat out of the pantry while you wait for your power to be restored or your entire freezer full of food to thaw out while in the freezer which ever comes first. So, since non-spoiling pantry meal ideas are on my mind, and you have shared so many delicious sounding pantry meals with me, I just wanted to give you one of my absolute favs with so many different variations that its my go to when the electric goes out yearly. It does require some water which I keep in storage and I cook it over a propane camping stove when the electric is out, but sometimes you just need a nice hot, hearty meal when there's a hurricane bearing down on you dumping tons of cold water in the form of rain that's attacking you LITERALLY from any angle you can imagine. I call it my ALL IN POTATOES because its such a simple and delicious pantry meal. · Pkt of (Au Gratin/Scalloped) potatoes · Can of cream of (celery/mushroom/chicken) soup to substitute water with in potatoes · Can or jar of Mushroom/asparagus · One protein. Choose from: · Canned chicken/turkey/tuna ·Or Vienna Sausages/cut summer sausage/frozen Sausage · Or beef · Cajun/Chili powder to flavor · Salt & pepper to flavor Just combine all ingredients in a boiling pan with the cooking potatoes. To save on water usage you can just pour all your fluids from the cans or jars of food in to cook the potatoes in. Add the delicate veggies at very end to heat so that you avoid serious decomposition issues with the asparagus. Stir and serve. It is cheap, pantry stable, easy to cook, super filling and so so yummy 😋 The thing I love the best about it is that you can adjust the size of the meal for the number of people by using less of the potato packet and buying individual size canned servings.

Just a thought. When you label your bags with the paper saying what it is for, you may want to put below that the expiration dates of the products within. That way it is just a quick glance every once in a while to verify your food is still good or how close expiration it may be so it may be replaced with fresher and original used.

Thanks for the inspiration to do this! I live in Slidell, LA and evacuated for hurricane Ida. Even after we came home, we were without power for another couple days (7 days without power). This is a great idea because you never know when you’ll need it and you give great inexpensive options. I finally get to go grocery shopping tomorrow to replenish my fridge / freezer after losing everything 😔 Salvation Army and other places in the community helped us by giving free, hot meals before we could get a few items to put back in our fridge.

We lost our home in a flood, the Salvation Army was so very helpful during that time. We received a lot of relief from several sources right away afterward, but the Salvation Army continued to help for several months after. They had trucks that drove through the neighborhood daily with meals and water. It helped so much with the cleanup and rebuild to know that we were going to get to eat a good meal that day.

I think these are great ideas even for people on a limited budget. There are some many people that still go without . These ideas would be great for people with several children to feed and at not cost much. Keep up the great humanitarian work you and your family do. I give whenever I can on my limited budget. Net year I am turning my garden into a helping garden for the food pantry in our town. I am limiting my planting to tomatoes, peppers, green beans and cucumbers so I can grow a lot more of these items to use for ourselves and give as much as possible to the pantry. I am excited to see rows and rows of these veggies growing and taking boxes and boxes to the pantry. Have a great day.

Hi Mindy, I loved this video. You have great ideas! One suggestion would be to date the meal packs…..use the oldest dated meal packs first. My husband and I grew up and live in Central and Coastal North Carolina….hurricanes! We are all to familiar with power outages so we have always planned for that possibly. Having a wall which depends on power, we have 3 weeks of water storage, a grill with 2 full gas tanks and a small generator. We are fortunate to have natural gas for stove in a rural community. I understand this may seem extreme for some viewers buts it’s the reality we have lived in our entire lives. Blessings

cream of mushroom soup, minute rice, some canned veggies and canned chicken. All in one pot cooking. I have researched WW2 and depression era recipes to stretch the budget out more and make do with what I have. Hormel makes a canned roast beef with gravy that is awesome over egg noodles and I can get 3-4 servings out of one can with noodles, possibly more when stretched with veggies.

I love the idea of putting emergency meal packages together for storage, and bless you for donating the proceeds of this video to disaster relief!!! A great shelf-stable protein item is turkey sausages and pepperoni. Aldi sells several different kinds for $3-$5 and the 'use by' dates are always several months out. I love buying the slim turkey sausages and slicing them up in pasta salads, but they'd also be wonderful in that jumbalaya dish!

As a mom of a college student I love these ideas. My son is a full time student and also works an almost full time job with UPS and so when he gets home late he needs quick ideas for dinner. Most of these are quick meals. Adding some of this stuff to his Christmas gifts this year (he's getting a nice set of pots and pans). He enjoys cooking so that's not a big deal to him. And can I just say you changed my life with the recipe for grown up spaghetti o's. I know the canned ones are horrible for you, but they are a comfort food for me and knowing I can make it myself very easy changed my life!!!

@@SeeMindyMom Your creative suggestions are great--Like a few others here, I'd love to see a 'no cook' meal plan since our disasters are earthquakes, and with natural gas leaks, open flames aren't safe, so meals would be uncooked, cold meals (and I see that was the same problem others mentioned here too). I love 💕 the idea of putting all the ingredients in a zip lock bags. I have not thought about doing that before. I love 💕 that you went to DT and showed what to buy and how to make the items. I enjoyed this video.

This hits home. I live in Oregon where we got hit with a massive ice storm in February lost power for days (luckily we have a generator and plenty of fuel) then we got hit with a massive heat wave I think in June hit 118. So this is so helpful. Both are really rare for our area.

Amanda, we got an ice storm in February, too. Tornado season pretty calm for us this year, so I was grateful.

Live in Oklahoma. In October 2020, there was an ice storm. We were without power for 9 days. Have a gas stove. We were able to cook and have a little heat. The power outage was so widespread that we couldn't get ice to put in an ice chest for several days.

Love this series and your generosity! The ideas are wonderful. Will be using these to put meal kits together for our monthly church food donations and for our own hurricane preparedness. I live in Florida...Hurricane central! Blessing to you and yours and thank you.

Those are wonderful ideas. Nice to see Dollar Tree used since sometimes in certain areas it is the only easily accessible store.

We just had a tornado hit out town and we lost power for 24 hours. Luckily we have a gas stove and we're able to make some oatmeal and canned soup! This video is great!
