Candles are so expensive nowadays, I’m glad there there is an inexpensive option. This method also looks fun to do with my kids and value information to know in case of an emergency. ❤

Why not pack in mason jar and melt in the jar and top off from measuring cup?
@don_wynn Жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that too but it may take a little longer 😃

😂😂 , how about Us, if we're here looking to warm up the house and have some light , we'll save on gas and light 😂😂 , but cheap ass crisco 😂😂😂

Why didn't you put in wick before pouring oil into jar. Tie a wick to a tooth pick then hang it in the jar. Then pour the oil. No need for candles
@EvangelistLaquandaBuncom20 күн бұрын
Yes and way less expensive

Mine burn real good for about an hour but then they start putting themselves out. Do you have any suggestions to prevent this?

Use bigger candles

How long will it store? Will the crisco go bad? Rancid? Stink? Mold?
@peppernickelly2 күн бұрын

Do these candles smoke? Many times burning oil gives off smoke.

id like to see a comparison burn of between these 4; a jar with shortening with a plain wick in it, a jar with a bottom of the barrel cheap candle as a wick, a jar with a "long burning" survival candle, and lastly a jar with a long burning bees wax candle. would be interesting to compare those times to see which is the BEST candle/ method to make the most of this prep. additionally, you could measure heat output on the pot to see if there are any differences. i saw on one of your other vids about the large terracotta pot and your jar maybe not producing enough heat? i was thinking you could do this same method with a coffee can and maybe multiple candles in one if it would fit in the pot. triple wick candles burn more evenly so i am told so you could do a coffee can with a triple wick.

Wicks are way less than candles

Question is it okay to breathe?
@JudiChristopherАй бұрын
YES... it is the same lard/crisco you cook with. The WICK might be what we need to know if we should breath Some Wicks smoke too much... Get a Good Candle/Wick... NOT a cheap one.

I have not used lard but many people comment on here that it works just the same and they’ve used it before 😃

See what happens if you use beeswax candles instead. They do not have the same degree of harmful VOCs that regular candles do.

Great it burns for 72 days, for lite, but how does it warm?
@JudiChristopherАй бұрын
It is a Candle... not a heater but I'm sure it gives off a little heat. If you have a few of them... it would give off more heat.
@thespider466521 күн бұрын
If you think you can heat with these prepare to be cold also will not last 72 days unless you use it 1hr a day only

i like to cook dumplings and fritters in mine once it gets nice and hot.. what about petroleum jelly, how long does that last?
@Nete-vb4xo5 күн бұрын
Breathing in petroleum would have harmful VOCs.
@chriswutang36Ай бұрын
What about the fumes being bad to breath in?
@Nete-vb4xo5 күн бұрын
I'm uncertain about the harmful aspect of breathing in vegetable oil but there are harmful VOCs from candles that are not beeswax.

Why not set he can of shortening in a pot to prevent a disaster instead of going through all this with the jars? Just wondering.
