I am a 911 dispatcher in Texas. We have a large deaf community and nobody at our PD signs. I have taken this on myself to have someone there for them when they come to make a police report. Mainly the issue has been domestic violence or burglary. Those signs would help me as I cannot find them online. THank you!!!

I love this video. I am a paramedic in a remote posting in British Columbia. We have an app on our duty cell phone that can connect us with live interpreters but in the region we operate out of there isn't always reliable cell service. My goal is to learn enough to understand and be understood so that I can provide a reasonable stop gap between when we don't have cell service to when we do. I look forward to more videos from you as I found this one easy to follow and clearly presented. Great job!

I’m an x-ray tech student and this is so helpful! Took sign language back in high school and have been wanting to really learn and get good. I came across my first deaf patient yesterday and was able to sign a few things. This led me to finding you and your videos. Again, this was so helpful and would love to see a part 2 for medical terms and phrases. Thank you!

Well, thank you so much for this video, I just subscribed to your channel. I am a first aid trainer and I was doing some training today and I had one guy that is deaf and mute, I was checking as many videos I could get and I did my best to provide my training in English, Spanish and ASL, this guy came to me at the end and sincerely thank me for the great effort I made to communicate and making sure he was safe at work. In some point of the class, the rest of the audience was enjoying the ASL part and they were asking questions trying to use some of the signs we used. I am not literate on ASL, but today I got one of those private humble moment of satisfaction knowing I helped some one. I will make my goal to learn to the point I can have a conversation, because of his reaction I kind of felt the frustration for not been able to communicate with the world. It is an amazing feeling when you can help someone to feel good.

Hey man thank you so much for this video! I just started interpreting for physical therapy. It’s usually for people who were involved in car 🚗 or motorcycle 🏍️ accidents and I’ve been learning a lot of medical and health signs. Sometimes the doctor asks if the patient has had any past surgeries. If they take medication If they go to therapy They also say things like “look to the left/right/up/down”
@signlanguagepractice Жыл бұрын
Do you know those signs?
@Sonicxis4ever Жыл бұрын
@@signlanguagepractice I know the sign to take medicine but I guess I’d like to see more physical therapy scenarios In ASL! For phrases like “look left/right” I’m not sure I’m signing it correctly but deaf people understand me

Hi I enjoyed watching this very informative video. I’m a Red Cross volunteer and help those impacted by disasters such as home fires or mud slides. I’m currently taking ASL for emergency management but I learned more in this short video than the last seven weeks taking the course. I’d like to learn more disaster related signs please

Love this video!! Thank you for making it!! I work in private security and occasionally found myself trying to communicate with deaf or hard of hearing people. No one else in my company can communicate in ASL, so I took it upon myself to learn some signs to communicate with the deaf community if they were to need our help.

Using ASL to say you will make a phone call for emergency services can make perfect sense. If you yourself can speak, and you are telling a deaf person that you will call for help, there is no reason why you can't make a phone call and as such, using that sign can make sense.

Are deaf people able to read lips?
@signlanguagepractice2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Lip reading is like any human acquired skill. The ability to lip read is different for everyone. Add in factors like facial hair, accent, looking right at you, background noise, familiarity with the vocabulary...by itself lip reading is not 100% effective. I have family members who are pretty good and others who cannot lip read at all.
