Poland sent 40 fire engines to help Sweden [SE | 7.2018]

Several huge forest/wildfires without control in Sweden (July 2018). Sweden has requested assistance from other countries in the European Union (through ERCC and EADRCC) to help out with the situation. In this video you can see a massive convoy with over 40 fire engines (over 130 firefighters/personnel) from Poland when they past Uppsala, Sweden heading north.
Mer än 40 brandfordon från Polen kör ut från Försvarsmaktens område i Ärna utanför Uppsala den 22 juli 2018. Fordonskonvojen som eskorterades av polis och militär (skyddsvakt) var påväg norrut för att delta i arbetet med flera större skogs och markbränder i Dalarna, Gävleborgs och Jämtlands län.

@@deadfatalle5613 are you personally the polish government that attacks fundamental democratic procedures in the country? although right now there are some morons in the European Commision, the ones that are against what the polish government is doing to polish democracy, those in the EU commision have a point. btw, this was the biggest operation from the Emergency Response Coordination Center from EU, involving almost 400 firefighters, several planes, helicopters etc from Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, i think french etc etc etc

You already did, Peter! Back in 1997 when Poland suffered massive floods and there were awful shortages of drinking water, the Swedes purified water from our rivers so we could drink it. You helped us a great deal, and we were very impressed and grateful. It was our turn to help in 2018 :) Hopefully we will always be able to count on eachother! Poland have around 4 brigades like this just to help others, in the same time when Greece where fighting with fires Poland were ready to send there same "fire army", and in Poland in every even small village is minimum one fire vehicle, Poles like to serve to community, that is why we have many firefigheters, soldiers etc.

This is a small thank you to the Swedish people who helped Polish refugees during WWII and afterwards while Poland was behind the Iron Curtain against it's will. The Swedes also sent their beloved group ABBA to raise Polish spirits in the late 1970's.

In Poland there are six deployable firefighting "modules" like this one you see. Reason is, that firefighters are divided into two parts : one, professional, like this one - about 35000 firefighters, and voluntary service, called "OSP". Its about 500 000 men.

in most countries the volunteer fire-fighters have the greatest share. Among the 1.1 million fire-fighters in Germany 96% of them are volunteers. There are only 100 career fire departments but more than 24,000 volunteer fire departments across the country

This share isn't everywhere and that is a sad thing, because the are not very well prepard for large incidients.

well, it depends a lot on the circumstances. Thus in Germany there's no need to have more (at least not much more) than the existing number of career fire deartments. In most cities they have only one station, maybe 2 or 3 and only very few cities have more than that. On the other side, almost every village has a volunteer fire department, but not every department there is capable to run calls with their potential capacity because their crew members are working too far away. Taking a look at the recent brush and forest fires in Germany, we aren't that well prepared in some cases I guess.

Yes, but I think it was the only way to greet people in Sweden waving them in greeting! Driver can't stop and go to tell "Hello my firieds", "How are you" :) In addition, children and people often want large trucks to show their powerful horns.

They were actually asked to take it easy with the horn. There are rules in Sweden, to use siren only if you have to. You must not honk unnecessarily. Of course, they did not receive any criticism when they broke the rule :)

It's really nice to see Sweden to get help from another countries. I am still wondering how Sweden's situation is so bad, compared to here in Finland there has been huge forest fire's also but we have managed to take care of them by our own resources. I have heard rumours that a while back in Sweden they took down whole volunteer firefighting system and now they have trouble trying to recruit people. Can anyone confirm this and might this be reason for this situation?

i dont think the Finnish fires are even close to how big the Swedish ones are, and you are also better prepared. There is 500+ from the homeguard and probably equally as many firefighters + and a few hundred military and civilians trying to put it out. Then we also have around 500 from around europe so there is probably around 2k people trying to put it out and it includes many helicopters and 4 water bombing aircrafts. But they are so big that they wont go out without massive rainfall said the goverment. + Now Gripen planes are bombing the forrests to try stop the fires from spreading so... i dont think you have the same problem.

The Swedish system is built with on full time fire stations in major locations and everywhere else part-time stations. The part time system works very bad nowdays because people are mobile, they doesn't both live and work close to the fire stations like people used to do so there is generally a huge problem to recruit new part time personal and many stations have reduced its shifts to only 1, 2 or mayby 3 firefighters. Hundreds of fire stations have been closed in the past 30 years. In some places, voluntary stations have been formed after the part time station closed, but most of those rare voluntary stations lacks money and have old equipment and hardly any members.

sewer derthok wysłali dwie jednostki do walki z pożarami obszarów leśnych. Jedna jednostka to 20 wozów strażackich. Takich jednostek jest w Polsce 6. Jedna taka jednostka jest jednolitym samowystarczalnym oddziałem do walki z ogniem w lesie. Może operować samodzielnie w dowolnym miejscu na świecie przez dwa tygodnie. Potrzebuje jedynie miejsca, paliwa i wody. Jeśli akcja się przedłuża powyżej dwóch tygodni, należy uruchomić linie zaopatrzenia logistycznego. Warto dodać ze cały koszt takiej operacji pokrywa państwo mobilizujące.
