For those who either don't know who Ed Sullivan was, or how POWERFUL an appearance was, back then, there were just 3 networks, and, as everyone (literally) was off the streets when I Love Lucy was airing, when Sunday nights rolled around, everyone was tuned to Ed Sullivan. With the explosion in the past couple of decades - first with cable, now with internet, the numbers (ratings) an average episode of his show would get, are next-to-impossible to do now. So, having the MacAfees singing this almost hymnal-like song (Paul Lynde is, as always hysterical), with Harry getting so choked-up, - meeting Ed, was akin t having a private meeting with the Queen, he was THAT big.

Nope it was scripted in the Broadway and in this version
@thegreatpowerfuldave2469 Жыл бұрын
@@mylesharris6329 You're right, the line found its way into the script of the Broadway production, but it was originally ad libbed by Paul Lynde during rehearsals. 'Birdie's' composer Charles Strouse writes about it in his autobiography. The creative team loved the ad lib so much that they put it in the script.
