I'm learning this piece right now. Von Sauer's version is beyond anything I've ever heard. I struggle with the mere technique; Sauer, on the other hand, plays it as if it were a natural product of him. Indeed, many of the Liszt pianists played everything like their own compositions. That is, in my opinion, the zenith of pianism.

@lovesGenet Some of what you're saying is accurate. Those you mentioned only dealt with technique already transcendent. That level of piano playing is reached in the early teens or never. They taught in the spiritual realm and created some of the finest pianists to ever live. But nice try trying to slam Liszt, Neuhas, etc. and what they did for piano playing. Must be uplifting to demean what these great men have done. We're all real impressed.
