Emilia heads to Leeds and finds out how her ancestor Samon worked from the age of 8 as a child labourer in an engineering works. An ingenious inventor, Samson became seriously rich with his invention of the corrugated boiler flue, made by his own Leeds Forge Company, which enabled steam engines to produce more power.

What a delightful curator Neil turned out to be. Love how he extended his arms as he presented the corrugated boiler flu. 😊 The portrait of Samson, with its special dedication art on the frame, is absolutely magnificent. So interesting that Samson's name is associated with STRENGTH, and his fortune was founded on an invention manifesting STRENGTH. This WDYTYA episode is a favorite of mine.

The term is Overlocker...used in textiles/sewing.

Clearly not - overlock machines were invented in the US in the late 1880s, 50 years after the census depicted. The term is correct: 'Overlooker', as in someone who watches over the machines, and keeps them and their operators working correctly.

Overlocker is a machine. Overlooker was his occupation, so an overlooker was a person.
