Emilia Pērez - Movie Review | Selena Gomez Stars In This Wild New Musical Melodrama

My review of Jacques Audiard's Emila Perez starring Zoe Saldaña, Adriana Paz, Selena Gomez and Trans Actress Karla Sofia Gascón. The film won two prizes at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival; The Jury Prize and Best Actress for all 4 aforementioned actresses. This is a history-making outcome as this is the first time in Cannes history that a Trans Woman (Gascón) has won Best Actress.

Yeah she does a really good job as a grieving widow. It’s quite a meaty part for her but she also gets to tap into her Disney roots with the singing and dancing. I would says she’s more of a supporting role than a lead but she’s still good here. Not convinced it’s Oscar’s material but I would be happy to be proven wrong. Thanks for watching.
