Belle was my favourite Disney princess when I was a child. She was the only one (apart from Esmeralda) who didn't need to be saved by prince charming. She was brave when she sacrificed herself and she was mature when she was able to see past the beasts "ugly" exterior. I'd like this side of Belle to be explored more thoroughly. Emilie De Ravin is a perfect Belle.

The interviewer obviously don't watch Once Upon a Time. Long live Rumbelle.
@alaynawood158410 жыл бұрын
Okay, if the interviewer really wanted to make an anti Rumbelle argument, she could have used better evidence that would have been contextually stronger than "he made her clean the curtains." For example, the scenes in Lacey where he made her clean the bloodied aprons from his torture session with Robin or when he tried to force her to watch him kill Robin would be much more relevant as I could see that being pretty emotionally traumatizing for Belle. These scenes though are still shaky at best. While it was pretty "bastardly" of him to put her through that, it wasn't about her. He would have dealt with Robin in that way whether she was there or not. And while it may have been a power play to exert dominance, it wasn't necessarily directed at asserting dominance and control over her, it was more about Robin. Now this doesn't justify or excuse his actions because it was still pretty revolting, but he would have acted that way with anyone regardless of whether they were a pretty blue eyed maid. And he showed remorse and tried to make up for his actions. Even despite the cruelty he showed Robin, Belle never once feared him taking it out on her even when she openly defied him. I think the best evidence we have to show that this relationship is NOT abusive is that Rumple has never purposely or consciously acted in a way to assert dominance or control over Belle through means of fear or violence either physically, mentally or emotionally. And in turn, Belle has never feared him and this is shown by all the times that she has called him out on his crap and reached out to him even in his moments of rage. She has always known that he would never act violent towards her. Again, I'm not excusing or justifying his less than savory actions. God knows that some of the crap Rumple has pulled has really pissed me off. Is this relationship honest and perfect? Not even close, but they both love each other and respect one another enough to work through this and get their relationship to a healthy point. I have complete faith in them.

I HATE THIS INTERVIEWER!! Has she even seen Rumple and Belle on the show?! Since when did he 'make her clean the curtains'- did she not hear the "what are you doing?!" in Skin Deep?! No wonder Robert Carlyle asked her what she meant! And what does she mean "does she feel safe with him"?! This reporter is just infuriating me. Rumbelle have their problems, but she's acting like Rumplestiltskin doesn't even care about Belle at all. Was she LISTENING at ComicCon when the creators said, very clearly, several times, that he does actually love her, no matter what he did with the dagger?! I don't blame Robert for calling her out on the 'bastard' comment. And yes, Rumbellers do not seem happy with this (I include myself in that) but it isn't because we're attacking the people who are attacking what we actually care about- it's because they aren't showing professionalism or asking logical questions- or even acting like they've seen the episodes with Rumplestiltskin and Belle at all. I mean, if you're looking for problems in a couple, go talk to Colin o'Donoghue and Jennifer Morrison about CaptainSwan! That, or go to the OutlawQueen actors- although I ship them, Regina did kind of kill Robin's wife. And Roland's mother. They all have problems, but it isn't ok to act like Rumple did everything wrong here.

Okay but the thing that actually really bothers me is not even calling out the shit Rum has done [ he's the beast after all guys come on we can't paint him in gold ( no pun intended ) he's meant to be evil ] what bothers me is the moment the interviewer says "Domestic Abuse" Emilie gets this shell shocked look on her face. However the interviewer continues despite it being obvious that she is very uncomfortable. She very clearly looks straight to Robert for assistance the moment she feels that way [ she's such a sweetheart I can understand why she wouldn't wish to say anything ] so I'm glad Robert being the gentleman he is put an end to her shit right quick. Honestly though this interviewer was quiet unprofessional and she have stopped her question the moment Emilie and Robert became uncomfortable.
@nataliec725110 жыл бұрын
I think that first question was very poorly phrased. It made the interviewer seem very biased against the Rumbelle relationship and seems to have made the actors very uncomfortable. Which I think is very unprofessional. This isn't an expose or a prosecution. Besides, the actors aren't the ones who wrote the story. Besides, considering that the people who would most likely view an interview about Rumbelle are Rumbelle fans, the question was poorly planned and should have been screen before being asked. Whatever the interviewer's intentions are for asking the question, the only thing that's clear is that it only riled up a big fandom of the show.
@victoriaanne63323 жыл бұрын
I agree with literally everything you said. It made the actors uncomfortable and it made the fans uncomfortable. It put Robert in a really bad position because he truly loves the character and wants to make positive comments about it to show support to dearies and rumbellers but he also doesn’t write the script so he doesn’t know if rumple will suddenly turn into a completely inhuman psychopathic and evil killer and abuser. And If he affirms rumple here and then rumple turns out to be completely evil later he’ll look bad anyway. He can’t really argue against her or support her. I think he gave a very nice answer though. I think Robert Carlyle brings incredible humanity to the role of rumple and the interviewer was trying to strip that away . I mean just the way her voice sounded when she asked the question was very emotionally charged. Her voice sounds much more stressed than all the other interviewers and actors. She clearly knew it was a sensitive topic and could not separate her own feelings when voicing the question. On top of that when he asked for clarification she immediately sounded very defensive. Interviews of actors on an entertainment show like this should have a much more relaxed tone. I could tell Robert and Emilie we’re trying to emulate that by giggling, joking, and affirming some of the questions. That interviewer changed the whole tone of this video unfortunately. Besides that I don’t think interviewers should really ask questions that are just like can you confirm my head canon? The writers never use “domestic abuse” to describe rumbelle so to add that in is kinda problematic. I had the same feeling when someone asked the writers a question that basically went “you’ve included swan queen in the writing and acting so you’re obviously doing it intentionally. What more can you tell me about the Regina emma romance?” The writers were taken aback and outright called out the person saying any romantic feelings between Regina and emma were unintentional. I mean it’s great if that is something you enjoyed from the show but if it’s not clearly shown you shouldn’t try to force cast and crew to affirm it. Broader questions about character direction are better. With that those questions should be directed at the writers anyways. Actor questions should be more like how do you prepare to portray this character, or what is your favorite part about portraying this character.

So I can kind of see the angel the first interviewer is coming from, however, it does show a complete lack of understanding of the Beauty and Beast story arc. The moral of the Beauty and the Beast story is "never judge a book (or a man) by it's cover". It's about getting to know a person, who doesn't believe they deserve to be loved because they are different (or ugly). It ISN'T about domestic abuse.

Such a waste of a character who started out so multifaceted and fascinating. I am a huge fan of Robert Carlyle and Emilie as well as their characters and relationship on the show. The interviewer has a point, though - there ARE messages that young girls should not be hearing, e.g. that a girl sees past the "bad" exterior and will save a disturbed man with her love! And the interviewer does say this. This is indeed a sick message for young girls! And while I love the couple on the show, I do think that the actors should address this at least by pointing out that this should not be taken seriously as it is fiction. I LOVE that Robert pointed out that Rumple is an addict (furthering my respect for him), but there seemed to just be a communication error in this interview. The actors should definitely be aware of the messages their characters are sending to children. P.S. I am 22, not an old lady being angry at the latest generation.
@Zarryon123 жыл бұрын
Yes in certain areas that shouldn't be a message to send to children, HOWEVER. There's also the message that no person is beyond redemption. It's only their own choices and the belief that they are too far gone and no one will help them. And it's a narrative that's all too real when you yourself are a perpetrator, given the context of your own comment. After all in the story of OUAT ....Rumple makes all the wrong choices but for all the right reasons. He's not truly evil and the end of the show showcased it SO elegantly. But i digress , saying that certain people are beyond saving only proves the person you believe beyond redemption, right.

I think belle abused rumple emotionally. That time in the dark castle, they weren't even together yet. He was literally holding her captive😂 but it was not "domestic abuse" wtf. I wouldn't call what belle did that either. But she did manipulate him🌚 and many things. I love her anyway I genuinely don't care. But I think the later seasons show the impact her abuse had on him and it's crazy the interviewer tried to turn things around. Although surely it wasn't easy for belle either, I'm not claiming it was. But apart from that lying in season 4, he never treated belle poorly while they were together. And it does matter. It's just not the same. Him being rude to her when he's a mere stranger or "beast" holding her captive is not comparable to a LOVER abusing you. It hurts way more when someone close to you hurts you. She got hurt the most when he lied🤷🏻♀️ not when she had to clean his castle to which SHE btw agreed to (volunteered. Accepted the deal. He didn't kidnap her).

Because he was cruel to everyone and he was not with her back then. So no, he was not a "b*tard" to her in their relationship. The only bad thing he ever did was that lying thing and that was really temporary, and belle has done much worse.🌚 and that was released after this interview anyway. How did he manipulate her? She manipulated him. Right from the start she wanted to "fix" him and forced him to behave better or else she'll abandon him. Although she knew from the start what kind of man he was. No wonder he ended up lying if you think about it. Was a direct consequence of her abuse.
