Tram wires cross northern skies cut my blue heart in two my knuckles bleed down tattered street on a door that shouldn't be in front of me Twelve thousand miles, away from your smile I'm twelve thousand miles away from me Standing on the corner of Brunswick got the rain coming down and mascara on my cheek Oh whisper me words in the shape of a bay shelter my love from the wind and the rain Crow fly be my alibi and return this fable on your wing take it far away to where gypsies play beneath metal stars by the bridge Oh write me a beacon so I know the way guide my love through night and through day Only the sunset knows my blind desire for the fleeting only the moon understands the beauty of love when held by a hand like the aura of nostalgia

What a discovery. Yet another 'thank you' to whatever genius paired this splendid singer with the emotionally-charged Wallander. What first got me hooked on that programme was my first sight of the minimalist title sequence accompanied by an incredibly soulful singer singing an incredibly soulful song. I still watch re-runs every Saturday night on British freeview.
@EmilyBarker8 жыл бұрын
+JJBushfan it was the composer Martin Phipps who bought me to his studio to re-record my song, Nostalgia, so it would fit lyrically with the Swedish setting (the original song is set in Melbourne, Australia) . 😊
@JJBushfan8 жыл бұрын
Then applause for Mr Phipps. And I do envy you your undoubted skill in all three disciplines - lyrics, music and playing. I always wanted to write songs in this sort of genre and some of my lyrics were decent enough. Trouble was, I couldn't write music for toffee and didn't know anybody who could. I ended up writing fiction instead.

Really love this song, but I'm obsessed with the take featured in the Wallender theme tune, where after the lyric "door that", a second voice features and both singers sing "shouldn't be" in harmony, and then emily sings "in front of me", and the vocal on that line sounds amazing. Wish I could get to but that version!

My dad played this song once to me when I was a little girl and I became completely obsessed. So much so in fact, that a year or so later he booked tickets for Purbeck Folk Festival - purely so we could see Emily Barker live. I can remember Emily Barker's performance vividly and I loved it so, so, so much. Because of that folk festival I'm still totally obsessed with folk music to this day (I went to Purbeck again last summer :D) And not only did Emily Barker help me discover folk but her song 'Disappear' really helped me through a rough year at school :) So, ironically this song makes me super nostalgic. All Emily Barker's music means so much to me! And I hope she gets the recognition she totally deserves (she is SO super duper talented)!!!
