First of all this channel has a very witty name haha im laughing and crying in this moment but you mentioned that Rivera’s ideas aligned with the government at the time and that’s not true and I could say this because when he was commissioned to paint the murals in Palacio Nacional one of his colleagues (Siqueiros) was jealous of him getting that mural commissioned by the government that he asked Diego: “Por qué el gobierno le daría el trabajo a un comunista Diego?” And Diego responded, “Porque al gobierno le interesa tener calidad de arte” which I’m paraphrasing here but that’s more or less what they said to each other. This is the same story with the Rockefeller mural, the rich love fine art and he was a famous artist. But yes he was able to slip his ideas into what he saw in Mexico at the time, he has many murals in Mexico City but one I really like is in Carcamo de Dolores in Sección of Bosque de Chapultepec which is a depiction of “panspermia” an evolution theory. Another really fun fact of Diego Rivera painting and portraits of others, is that he painted his eyes in all his art and you can see this in some of his art in his native house in Guanajuato city (which is where I studied) but yeah if you look at the kid in the mural of “sueño de una tarde dominical”; that’s actually his eyes or him in the painting. Anytime if you’re in Guanajuato state I’d be happy to take you to his native house. Also so weird haha but I think I went to high school with the Emily you took to see the mural haha anyways cheers!
