On November 7th, 2022, photographer and oral historian Emily Williams gave us a glimpse of her ongoing work from this past summer which she spent traveling around Alabama. We discussed her research and everything that went into a summer spent doing in-depth fieldwork all over the state. Williams shared her images, oral history recordings, and stories from her life on the road.
Emily Rena Williams (b. 1996) is a Louisiana-based photographer and oral historian. She was raised in Chicago and received a BA from Haverford College where she studied history and studio arts. She is currently pursuing her MFA in photography at Louisiana State University. Her ongoing work explores the Jewish experience in the Deep South through analog black and white photography and oral history.
