This is the most I think I’ve ever seen your personality and I love it! You’re so quirky and funny and I can’t wait for the rest of the series. You’re so hard on yourself, ease off a bit! You kept saying how bad it was gonna be an in the moment you saying I was like “GIRL DON’T EVEN!!”. I think the biggest thing with pop music is that you just have to relax. It’s more of a relaxed singing then theater for sure (Half of it is also like the exact opposite of what you’re taught in classical training 😂😂) I think you would rock summertime by Ella Fitzgerald. It’s popular enough and I feel easy enough that you could still get a good feel. You’re doing so great!❤️❤️

for riffs: do them slowly, go through every note, and then get quicker and quicker, thats about it :D but you're doing great :thumbsup:
@SuperIgill4 жыл бұрын
As some wise men said: "If you can play it slowly, you can play it quickly", applies to singing too :D What I use to learn riffs is trying them to sing as you said slowly, but also in different style. For the begining mostly in staccato with a lot of "pulse" in my belly and then transitioning into legato. I think everybody needs to find their way of dealing with such things.

And you even slow down the audio here on KZbin and hear the riff slowly
@charlietheis40484 жыл бұрын
Something that helps me to riff is to just let go, let my voice do it‘s thing and not think too much about it. If you try to keep to much control on your voice and think too much about not being pitchy you won‘t be able to let loose. Also hand gestures help a lot with the direction of the riff. You just have to be ready for it to sound absolutely horrendous and completely missing the notes (while you‘re learning a new riff, after you know it it‘s gonna come without thinking!)

your riffs were so beautiful dk what you’re talking about “not a riffer” 😭, the human voice is versatile don’t ever limit yourself to anything, with practice everything will sound the way you want it to! beautiful!

Girl, you don’t lack the ability to riff you lack the CONFIDENCE. You sound amazing and even if you mess up just keep practicing and you’ll get it perfect! The most important part of singing is having confidence in yourself! From what I heard, you sound great!!! ❤️❤️

You don’t suck at pop songs dear. The ones you have covered have been great. This is so timely because you kind of ran out of memorable theatre songs.

oh man, I feel so much better from you saying that you don't use a chest voice past B4. I feel like this whole "mixed voice" thing is blowing my mind, I thought every pop star just had a fantastic chest range. I need to start working out this mixed voice!

I also used to think I couldn’t riff at all, and I was almost too afraid to try for fear that I would embarrass myself or something. My best advice for improving is just to start casually singing more songs w riffs in them, and laughing if you screw up!! Nothing embarrassing about learning a new skill. Once I let go of my hesitation I was able to pop out so many more riffs than I thought I could!!

I would say don't be afraid to take older pop songs even and make them your own. Two great examples of that are: David Cook singing "Billie Jean" on American Idol and Adam Lambert singing "Believe" to honor Cher at the Kennedy Center. Nothing wrong with putting your own spin and flair to the songs you like. Just relax and have fun!

That was good! Don’t be hard on you. Riffing the exact same way another singer does it’s like following the same path of a fly. Really difficult. Instead, i would try to do it my way. Getting used to it little by little and soon you will feel confortable enough to forget about your riffing fear.

hiya, regarding breathing: Yoga breath really helps open everything up! Also the bubbling into water through a tube helps with support. And my flute player has been teaching me that rather then forcibly inhaling, I should just release all tension, that will let breath into my body and then support again. It takes some getting used to, but it helped with my capacity loads. Worth a shot ;)

Riffing tip: try not to think about it too much while doing it. If you're too focused on your voice and throat/vocal cords you won't be able to relax and freely do the riff. SO, I literally when the riff of a song is coming up, I will look somewhere where there is text (i.e. driving down road listening to tunes- will look at a sign or billboard) and will consciously read it in my mind. So I'm still singing, but my mind is focused on something / words/ text totally different and it allows my vocal cords to just be relaxed and loosened up, and usually that's enough to hit the riff. I know it sounds silly, but it works for me, and hope it helps you too!
