Please be kind to yourself. Life is a journey. And knowing when/what/why/where mistakes have been made is a super-power. What was done in a moment (extreme decluttering/minimizing) reflects that mood & needs of that moment in time. You can't regret it later, but just learn and move on. It's the past that makes one realize the importance of things now. If you hadn't experienced losing certain pieces of your wardrobe, you'd never realize their value. By making this video, exposing the things you have learned and expressing them so clearly to the rest of us, you are allowing us to learn from your mistakes. And done in a manner so stylish that your mistakes seem intentional for our benefit.

Love your channel! I have a minimalist edgy aesthetic but I am anything BUT a minimalist!! 😂 I have a lot of clothes, abd that makes me very happy. I love bright bold colours and they make me who i am. Deffo think you can love a minimalist aesthetic and intentional edgy pieces, but keep your personal sense of self. I have a short spikey pixie cut and very bold glasses which give me a chance to be me (links to your not too basic point). Love your reflection on your aesthetic and methods - and you're willing to share it with us ❤

I sincerely envy your ability to layer. I live in Dallas and there's, maybe, a few weeks out of the entire year I can layer more than a t-shirt and an oversized shirt. Much beyond that and I'm dripping sweat. Blazer envy.

Try bamboo clothes. I’m obsessed with layering but in Alabama, and bamboo is cooling and has some built in sun protection.

Love this! About 4 years ago I did a huge purge, overhauling my closet and trying to pin down my look. BIG mistake that I did it all really fast. I ended up regretting removing pieces I had loved. I feel like I wasted so much money trying to pare down my wardrobe too fast.

I agree, personally I don’t want to feel like I’m in a box in regards to my style, I get bored easily and need a little something to spice up my outfits and mood when I think about what I’m going to wear to an event, also I like to balance masculine and feminine in what I wear, like a beautiful strand of pearl with a simple black outfit! I enjoy your style and videos very much, it pushes me to look for inspiration! Thank you for sharing! Have a wonderful day from Canada! 🤗👍

Because I have a seated body type my outerwear consists of a black knit moto jacket I lucked up on about 5 years ago, a forrest green peacoat, and a few quince cardigans. Aside from my neutrals, (black, navy, charcoal, camel), I've invested in a few jewel tone sweaters, a red as well. I wear jeans 99% of the time. My formula: I only wear the more colorful sweaters with vintage wash jeans, usually a brown or leopard print shoe or boot. Scarves and wraps are abundant in my closet.

@Just_Kirsty2 ай бұрын
Uh-oh, you said something there that I always am guilty of - the color choices. I used to wear mainly black, grey and white and while I did stick to these for the most part, I felt like my wardrobe was THE MOST inspiring to me personally. I was playing around with textures a lot and I loved it. Then I got into color analysis and the palette I received when I actually got my colors done is very vibrant and vivid and colorful. I was overwhelmed, wanted to try them all out and figured (also got told by another consultant) that I am one of those color types that can actually get away with almost any color without looking bad at all. So I started implementing SO MANY different color schemes that it started to feel like someone else's wardrobe was staring back at me. My mom even said "these might flatter you, but they are really not you.", and I feel that. Today I dug out a few older garments of mine (black bodysuit, very sleek and sporty look, but also edgy, a really special faux leather jacket with pyramid shaped studs and a big, large double lapel, interesting details) and wore them with my wide legged jeans and chunky sock boots and my mom smiled when she saw me. "See, this looks like the real you and even though that jacket looks insane on its own, on you it just looks 'normal' and cohesive", and I was like "how can a person become SO scattered in terms of their style?!", I don't even mind what others think about my style, but when my mom says something about it, it usually has a very valid point and I instantly felt and saw the difference today. It's not only the colors it's also the styles those colors are available in. These vibrant colors often times are available in either pretty basic or very cutesy styles which both can look REALLY boring on me personally. Even the brightest colors just look normal on me, not special or truly bright. If you see them on their own, they appear crazy bright, but on me? Plain, boring. Black gives an extra oomph and instantly adds something to my look that makes it more special. I do enjoy colors, don't get me wrong, but black just easily adds that slight edge to an outfit. And I do get it, it is indeed true that garments that might look intimidating and extreme on their own can look insanely normal on me and I never really understood why that is, still don't, but hey, maybe I don't have to understand why that is, maybe I just need to learn to embrace it? I am very glad that I did not declutter my black clothes, I just put them in a different space. I am probably still going to wear colors, but combine and style those pieces very differently now. What looks crazy or edgy on some might just look plain and "boring" on someone else and vice versa. That's ONE of all the reasons why it doesn't make much sense to just copy someone else's looks. We can get inspired by them, but should allow ourselves to add our personal vibe to an outfit. And that can be very different for each individual person. To anyone being curious: I am definitely not a Winter, but a Spring, so it makes sense that black adds edge to my appearance and bright colors look normal on me. Sometimes the effect "our own" colors have on us might not be exactly what we personally prefer to look like. And that's okay. I also learned that autumnal colors add a grungy effect to my appearance which I also like to add into what I wear, so you can still benefit from an analysis, it might help you learn which colors give you the effect you desire (even if they aren't within your own palette).
@lbeard7661Ай бұрын
I know how you feel - I’m the same way. Right now I’m wearing three wildly different shades of green that aren’t at all complimentary (moss green, lime green, and pine) and the outfit looks completely normal on me. Gothic clothes and wildly detailed ones and mixed up patterns just look like someone else wearing a white tshirt and jeans. Style roots and facial essences really play into how your clothes look on you. I have sun/moon/earth roots (Ellie-Jean’s method if you don’t know what I’m talking about) along with gamine and ethereal essences so I can get away with really fun stuff.

I have just realized that I need my layer to be a color/print. I wear and love long flowing black lightweight pants with a black fitted tank top. I love black/ navy or dark green as a base, but the fabric had to be flowy and the top had to match the bottom in color. Then the fun begins with my colorful long layers and bold jewelry. I have always worn this but sometimes it will feel off because now I know that I did not like a certain fabrics. I am saying goodbye to my bright sweater dresses, jeans, boho dresses ( so frumpy) and black blazers( about 10). Getting dressed has become a dream and packing is so easy. I have 3 outfit formulas that makes sense for me! I made so much mistakes in the past. Retirement really helped me come to my true sense of style because there was no pressure to dress for something. I dressed for my own love of drama and comfort. I wish I had understood all the variables in my style. I brought all the wrong things but I could not understand what made them feel wrong.

I will admit I am an enormous clothes hoarder. I try to create a capsule wardrobe from items I’ve had for years (decades even). Weight gain after quitting smoking crept up on me for twenty five years. What’s a bit of weight every year…2 lbs adds up. Luckily I wore oversized when I was a size 4. Most of the Eileen & FLAX S still fit well. Trends? Got most every year. My go to boot is big this year so forget about finding any good ones second hand for a while. Packing away all my striped linen pants for the season and will now try to fit into winter selection. It was 83 degrees yesterday. Seem to have lots of brown olive and mustard linen and cotton for the transitional season. Not a huge burgundy fan…Will not be trending this season.

Sooo true! Esp on the layering. Where im based at right now, it is hot humid and rainy 365 days a yr. But i still chose to layer with cotton or thin linen fabrics bcos it gives a lot of depth and dimensions. Outerwear is an essential for sure, which we sometimes take it for granted

Interesting to listen to your journey of style evolution, channel development, your findings in retrospect. I absolutely respect that and like to watch it. I also take inspiration from your videos. I wonder, however, if the amount of time you spend, or other people who adore fashion spend, thinking about cloth and style, and pieces to combine, or not to combine, is worth it? Worth in the context of life, which passes so quickly, days that are go by so fast. Ist it worth to focus so much on fashion, on what you wear? Seemingly it is your area of interest, it is connected to your personality, your mood probably and your lifestyle, and your business, your profession, your income. I try to understand why fashion can have such a high value and meaning in one‘s life. I like your pixie cut, and the authenticity you bring into your videos. - You are creative and share creativity. Maybe that drives your motivation towards fashion. My capsule wardrobe consists of several favourite pieces which I have 7 times (7 x the same item) in my closet. Or 2 times. Or 5 times. Depending on what it is. I find that very convenient. It avoids thinking time about „what to wear, and what to combine“ and it frees up so much time for other topics in life. I love that. So my focus is probably simplification, rather than minimalism. One more thought: living in fashion, or letting style and fashion become such an important part is someones life, is life in a „capsule“ in itself, isn‘t it?
