Just heard his mom passed away. From someone who also grew up with a difficult relationship with his mother and an absent father, this song speaks volumes. Sometimes, it's hard to forgive our parents, but those are the ones we had placed before us. Some of us out there are the product of our parents generational trauma.

The grief you feel after losing a parent that you had a complicated relationship with is different than other grief. The loss of who they were, who you hoped they'd be, who you needed them to be, who they'll never be. This song perfectly expressed some of the complicated feelings I have about my mom, it was released after she was gone. I've often wondered what this loss will bring for Marshall. There will be battles fought between him and the other personas he carries in his head as he tries to process the anger, the pain, the guilt, the sadness, and even the relief that comes as you no longer wait for this phone call. I hope he has strong support during this time and is gentle with himself.

I grew up in an abusive household. Getting over it, forgiving, and finding common ground so I can be in the same room as my mom is something I'm constantly working on. She's better now, and I'm still healing but it has to be done. The cycle has to stop. All the pride and guilt has to be swallowed by someone else I'll pass it along. My mom was abused too, and passed it down to me, and it stops with me. No guilt shaming, no more pain added, it's no ones "fault" it's just this shitty world we live in. Deep down I want to love her more than anything but it is hard. If you have a good mom, love her with everything you have, because being a parent isn't easy. Lot's of moving parts and what not. I'm trying
@ozonecandleАй бұрын
@@kellyhenry2875 Give them time. I don't know the details and those are personal so I don't want to know, but it's hard for us too. It just takes two people being strong and allowing time. The older I get the more I understand, and the more I forgive. I wish the best for you for you and your child. Just know it's confusing for us growing up and sometimes everything gets so short circuited that the kid just can't make sense of it. Time and patience wins the battle.

My brother killed himself when I was little and my mom became an alcoholic. She couldn't cope. I used to get so mad at her and listened to Cleaning Out My Closet on repeat to piss her off. I grew up, I realized what she went through was one of the hardest things a mother could endure and I found myself appreciating her in a new way. She died from the alcoholism, I had to take her off of life support. I kissed her forehead as she died in my arms and all I could hear was this song in my head. I lost my dad last year, he got murdered. I found myself wanting my mama and looking for her strength. She wasn't here but I found that strength because of the love she gave me when she was here. You don't grow up with parents like this and sort it out. You can reach a point of seeing them for who they are and accepting that person did the best they could with what they had but it doesn't get sorted out or resolved. With every passing day, with every new life event, there is more trauma added and pain to sort through later. The things to forgive them and yourself for only stops amassing after their death. I understand your sentiment, it just isn't the reality of how these things work.

No you don’t. I was on OG fan and I even attain some of my upbringing towards him as I didn’t have a father in my life and I used people like Eminem to fill that gaping hole (pause). But I hate this gate keeping mentality of “you had to be there or you’re not a real fan”. I’m sure there are many fans who were born after the year 2000 who love his old work and can understand the importance of this track. If certain things speak to you on a deep level, we don’t have to discredit others’ understanding. Just my 2c. Peace bro ✌️

This song is really beautiful tbh. In this song he's apologizing to his mom for "cleaning out my closet" but you have to understand his mom had a drug problem and pushed all of her anger on her young son. When he wrote that song he was filled with rage. Now in her later years he knows what kind of mother she was but he realized what she was going through a single mom with a drug addiction. He feels guilty for making that song but I understand why he did it. He's so sad to see his mom finally wearing away. He does love her and this song is so nice.

I grew up on Eminem. I was a young, white kid in the ghetto, raised by a single mom, and had a similar upbringing. I used to relate so much to his songs and feel like he was speaking for me, so to hear this and see that no matter how rough I thought it was, there's always hope for a loving family, it just hits too hard.. you gotta really understand the Marshall Mathers story to realize just how significant this song is. I'm really happy he made this for not only himself and his mother, but for all those who had strained relationships with their parents growing up.
