Slave driver just describes how hard a person pushes others, in this case as hard as the overseers pushed slaves. Any offense would be taken from the hyperbole. So I guess yes in this climate. While we're on the topic of depressing political commentary, the disabled people weighing down the vehicle is an allegory to society, although I think Eminem is on the wrong side of that one.

The offense wouldn't come from hyperbole, it'd come from making light of a terrible situation and using it as the punchline of a joke. The fact that offensive things are cobbled together in a joke do not make them any more or less offensive. Pretending that framing the offensive things you're saying as a joke excuses any part of what you actually said is what desperate conservatives do to trick themselves into believing they're not all horrible hateful bigots. To be clear this is hypothetical and I don't think using the term slave driver is very high on the offensiveness charts, but I can't stand the snakey excuses you explained that people come up with to not take any responsibility for what they choose to say.

@@ImSquiggs I disagree. Using these things for a joke is not the same, because it isn’t said to offend or insult innocent people. For example: Eminem isn’t saying that the slave driver was right here, he is stating that someone pushed him to do something has though they were a slave driver forcing a slave to work. In fact, the joke even portrays this as negative, thereby calling what a slave driver does evil. Not only is this not offensive to a slave because the people who abused them are insulted, albeit in a comedic way, but it also does not question the comedians moral character. Of course, some individuals of questionable morality will make jokes that ARE meant to insult people, but depending on who they insult this may not be a bad thing. For example, what if they made a joke at the expense of the bigots you mentioned? I personally disagree with such bigots, and I would likely find that joke funny, however I thereby accept that making jokes that offend a group of people is acceptable, now I have to define why making offensive jokes about some groups of people is acceptable and others not. I have personally decided that offending everyone is almost always the best choice because in the end most people what to be treated equally, and that is a part of that.

@@requiemlul3140 I don’t disagree with most of this, except that your intent is irrelevant when determining whether or not you’re being offensive. How you use the words you choose to use is very important in determining whether you’re being offensive when talking about a subject, which is what most of what you said is about if I understand correctly, but framing things as a joke does not change how you used those words. It’s not some get-out-of-jail-free card to tack a “jk” on the end, you still are responsible for the words you said. I’d argue your intent is completely irrelevant here, the message you choose to put out into the world is the only thing that actually matters.
