[Intro] Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down [Hook] Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down like toy soldiers Bit by bit, torn apart We never win But the battle wages on for toy soldiers [Verse 1] I'm supposed to be the soldier Who never blows his composure Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it My crew ain't supposed to know it Even if it means going toe to toe with a Benzino It don't matter I'd never drag them in battles that I can handle 'Less I absolutely have to, I'm supposed to set an example I need to be the leader, my crew looks for me to guide 'em If some shit ever does pop off, I'm supposed to be beside 'em That Ja shit, I tried to squash it It was too late to stop it There's a certain line you just don't cross, and he crossed it I heard him say Hailie's name on a song And I just lost it it was crazy The shit went way beyond some Jay Z and Nas shit And even though the battle is won, I feel like we lost it I spent so much energy on it, honestly I'm exhausted And I'm so caught in it I almost feel I'm the one who caused it This ain't what I'm in hip hop for, it's not why I got in it That was never my object, for someone to get killed Why would I want to destroy something I helped build? It wasn't my intentions, my intentions were good I went through my whole career Without ever mentioning And that was just outta respect, for not running my mouth And talking about something that I knew nothing about Plus Dre told me stay out, this just wasn't my beef So I did, I just fell back, watched and gritted my teeth While he's all over TV Down-talking the man who literally saved my life Like, fuck it, I understand This is business, and this shit just isn't none of my business I'm still knowing this shit could pop off at any minute, ‘cause… [Hook] Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down like toy soldiers Bit by bit, torn apart We never win But the battle wages on for toy soldiers [Verse 2] There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme and Wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin' But now it's elevated ‘Cause once you put someone's kids in it The shit gets escalated it ain't just words no more, is it? It's a different ball game You call names and you ain't just rappin' We actually tried to stop the 50 and Ja beef from happenin' Me and Dre had sat with him Kicked it and had a chat with him And asked him not to start it, he wasn't gonna go after him Until Ja started yappin' in magazines how he stabbed him Fuck it, "50, smash him! Mash him and let him have it!" Meanwhile my attention's pulled in another direction Some receptionist at the Source Who answers phones at his desk Has an erection for me and thinks that I'll be his resurrection Tries to blow the dust off his mic and make a new record But now he's fucked the game up, ‘cause one of the ways I came up, was through that publication The same one that made me famous Now the owner of it has got a grudge against me for nothin'? Well, fuck it, that mothafucka could get it too, fuck him then! But I'm so busy being pissed off, I don't stop to think That we just inherited 50's beef with Murder Inc And he's inherited mine, which is fine Ain't like either of us mind We still have soldiers that's on the front line That's willing to die for us as soon as we give the orders Never to extort us, strictly to show they support us And maybe shout 'em out in a rap or up in the chorus To show 'em we love 'em back And let them know how important it is To have Runyon Avenue soldiers up in our corners Their loyalty to us is worth more than any award is But I ain't tryin' to have none of my people hurt or murdered It ain't worth it, I can't think of a perfecter way to word it Than to just say that I love y'all too much to see the verdict I'll walk away from it all 'fore I let it go any further But don't get it twisted, it's not a plea that I'm coppin' I'm just willing to be the bigger man if y'all can quit poppin' Off at your jaws, well, then I can ‘Cause frankly I'm sick of talkin'. I'm not going to let someone else's coffin rest on my conscience, ‘cause… [Hook] Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down like toy soldiers Bit by bit, torn apart We never win But the battle wages on for toy soldiers ps.i can't see anyone posting lyrics anywhere so I wrote it down, you can thank me later pps .also don't forget to like this so other people can see this so they can understand this masterpiece better Personal update:oh shit 1.1k likes yet I only have 10 subscribers,oh what the hell thank you guys for liking, but I'm not taking any credit this is eminem's lyrics so credit goes to him

@Insane player he had been talking to me a lot about the problems he was going through, I knew something was up but didn't know what so I pushed him to go to the doctors. He went, and got diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, and was put on an 8 week waiting list for proper help. When he told me that I just thought "well I've done my bit" and never bothered to reach out to him again or check he was ok. A few weeks later his step dad found hin dangling from a rope, he was stiff and grey. And I have to live with the fact that if I had bothered to support him - like a mate should, his step dad wouldn't have had to try and give CPR to him despite his stiffness. I was 17 years old, and through sheer negligence I put my mate in the ground. I doubt I'll ever forgive myself for that

I love this song cause he goes in on the entire rap game, lets Dre know he's a bitch for getting hoodwinked by Suge, calls all these so-called black thugs what they are, TOY soldiers. Pretty much says Source magazine is for 'those' people, which it is. This was the first song Eminem made after joining the Proud Boys and it might be corny, but we proud of him for it. Haha, Dad humour there. I know I'm introducing alot of rap fans to the concept though lmao.

*READ IMPORTANT ANALYSIS* This song is a reflection on rap beefs (disputes). Eminem discusses friends being pulled into other friends' wars, and realizes that everyone involved comes out looking foolish They are all like toy soldiers, pawns being led into battle by an outside force. The battles they wage might as well be fought for toys, they are so meaningless. Rappers are personified as 'Toy soldiers' whilst the major record label companies 'toy' with them. They encourage the disputes to continue in order to profit from the controversys and violence between other rappers hence 'soldiers' because they are fighting and are controlled by the majors. Do you think record labels ever tell their clients to not put out music that will spark for hatred and violence? Nope because they no they can profit from it which is why Rappers are once again personified as Toy Soldiers, fighting until the toy becomes 'broken' aka killed. But hey the Record labels don't care , no matter what public statements they put out regarding a Rappers death and how "deeply saddened they are" in reality they don't care at all, why? Cause you can always "buy another Toy Soldier" see what I'm saying? (Get another puppet Rapper) At the end of the video, he shows four examples of Rappers who were killed because of violence in other words "Soldiers", sad thing is it could've been avoided, if Rappers weren't often controlled by labels to put out more music which could endanger their own lives, for the sake of Record Labels profiting from it. 4:42 Even before that, it shows Eminem putting down his microphone implying if everybody had put down their microphone and stopped dissing each other, lives wouldn't have been lost After reading this listen to the song again and everything will make so much more sense especially towards the end. There's so many other interpretations of this song linking back to this one but if I was to write it all , this comment would be even longer. To simplify the other one, if Rappers learnt how to stay in their own lane and to not throw subliminal disses at each other , beef wouldn't be so prevalent and less Rappers would be killed, this links back to how Labels take advantage of this and allow it to continue for self profit Incase anyone thinks this is some exaggerated post Skip to 4:39 kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIu1ZWOaZ8uYlbc

Like toy soldies Lyrics Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down [Hook] Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down like toy soldiers Bit by bit, torn apart We never win But the battle wages on for toy soldiers [Verse 1] I'm supposed to be the soldier Who never blows his composure Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it My crew ain't supposed to know it Even if it means going toe to toe with a Benzino It don't matter I'd never drag them in battles that I can handle 'Less I absolutely have to, I'm supposed to set an example I need to be the leader, my crew looks for me to guide 'em If some shit ever does pop off, I'm supposed to be beside 'em That Ja shit, I tried to squash it It was too late to stop it There's a certain line you just don't cross, and he crossed it I heard him say Hailie's name on a song And I just lost it it was crazy The shit went way beyond some Jay Z and Nas shit And even though the battle is won, I feel like we lost it I spent so much energy on it, honestly I'm exhausted And I'm so caught in it I almost feel I'm the one who caused it This ain't what I'm in hip hop for, it's not why I got in it That was never my object, for someone to get killed Why would I want to destroy something I helped build? I'm not going to let someone else's coffin rest on my conscience, ‘cause… [Hook] Step by step, heart to heart Left, right, left We all fall down like toy soldiers Bit by bit, torn apart We never win But the battle wages on for toy soldiers

I honestly never hear a rapper spill his heart out on a track like this without auto tune or shit like that. No going off subject or false shit. Just pure emotion. Anger, sadness, regret. You could feel all that in his voice. None of these new guys can pull this off.

While everyone looks down at me listening to this, I just smile because I know most kids this days don't know the real music that shows the struggle of getting to the top. Nowadays, most musics only shows how good you were at twerking, shows how much ferraris and lambo's, shows how much money you have, muffling sounds that doesn't make sense (don't get me wrong, there are some that are good too but its rare to find one).
