Emlid Studio Tutorial for free PPK Processing

Thank you for the great tutorial! Have you ever processed your Reach View 3 csv file with gpcs using the cors station directly instead of using your processed RS2 base for comparison?

I have but since I have a pair, I almost always setup the base unit on site. I started with the RS+ units so that was more critical with the L1 units. But with the RS2 units, I could get good results just using the CORS Log to PPK the RS2 Rover. I also have a Phantom 4 RTK and I use my Emlid RS2 Base as the base station for the P4 RTK. So let's just say 99.9% of the time I have both set up. But using just one as a Rover with CORS for your base would work very nicely as well!

Hello DMT, thanks for your most informative videos. I am a retired civil engineer that's been away from the biz for a decade now and I have become very bored. So, I bought the P4 RTK w/ base station (before I knew all of my options) and I also bought a couple of Emlid RS2s to run control points in. What will Emlid Studio not do for the P4 RTK? I haven't got that far in my learning yet so that's a serious question. I am in middle TN btw. And my son-in-law is from your area. Oh, and I've been told that the results are better to not set the dji base up over a known control point. Any idea why?

@@patwallace4741 Hi Pat, welcome back in the field! :) ES is great software but it will not process the P4 RTK files. The P4 RTK creates a .MRK file that ES does not handle. DMT is the US Distributor for TopoDrone and the best software out there (and not only because we sell it) is the TopoSetter software. It cost $500 for a perpetual license and it makes processing the P4 RTK PPK files very easy www.dronemappingtools.com/products/toposetter-rtk . The perfect setup is to have 2 Emlid RS2 Receivers, and either (P4P Pro, Mavic 2 Pro, or Air 2S) with the TopoDrone PPK Kit added www.dronemappingtools.com/collections/ppk-upgrade-kits . Unfortunately, you can not take HDR photos with the RTK version (which I do for most construction progress photos. But when you use the P4 Pro with the TopoDrone PPK kit added, then you get all the benefits of the P4P Pro but the added accuracy of PPK and it works very nicely. The P4 RTK comes in 2 flavors... a) Integrated Remote b) regular white remote, aka SDK version. If you want to do PPK processing with the SDK version, you can ONLY use DJI Pilot (Android). If you use any other software, the files needed for PPK processing will not be generated. Yes you can still fly in RTK mode with other apps, but you will not get the required files to do PPK processing. I do not know about the integrated remote as I do not have that version and never flown it. I hope this helps. Great video! I want to thank you! Your videos got me involved in mapping, and as well found out about Emlid. I have 2 RS+'s, I noticed OPUS only has RS2 in the drop down for antennas, is there a work around for the + and is there any different process for the + in the studio? Thank you and amazing videos!

Hey Garey, glad it was helpful. So with the RS+ units (which are AWESOME!) you can not do any processing on OPUS. That is because OPUS only processes dual frequency receivers. The RS2 and M2 are both dual frequency but the RS and RS+ are single L1 frequency units. But you don't need Opus. I was only showing the Opus results so that people could see what Opus provided as a solution and how that compared Emlid Studio. You can setup your RS+ as a base unit and do PPK processing with that using the nearest CORS station. Then after you do PPK on your RS+ base, you will then use that as the reference Base to do PPK processing on your RS+ Rover. For people who do not have two RS units, they can actually use the CORS station to do PPK processing on the rover. It is my understanding and my belief that it is best to use two units. You have your RS Base sit statically at your mission site, and then use that local base to correct your Rover. That will provide the most accurate results. Thanks again for watching! Hint: "Greenwich" is pronounced "Grennitch" (not even "Greenitch"). You'll find silent Ws in many names in the UK, such as Warwick, which is not pronounced "War Wick" but "Worrick" and "Southwark" which is pronounced "Suth-uck".

@@mixeducationinformation2823 Unfortunately I am not familiar with your setup. In software like PPK Processing by TopoDrone there is a setting where you can adjust the offset between the trigger and the photo. So if you have a constant 500 milliseconds between the actual photo time and the trigger event, then you can make an adjustment to make the time accurate. If your time offset is constantly changing then that is a problem that most likely can not be resolved. In the years past, people used a sensor on the Phantom 4 Pro to log an event (photo taken). That system worked pretty nicely but there was a delay in the photo and the light blink that triggered the event. So the time offset was there to account for this delay. I think it varied from 30-300 milliseconds. If you want to use a trial to process your data with TopoDrone software, you can download it from www.TropoDrone.com/downloads and scroll down to #3. If you wish to purchase the software you can buy it from www.DroneMappingTools.com . I hope this helps.

You say you are spot on with the EMLID and OPUS, My results from your data shows you are 0.264 ft. or 3.168 in. off in Horizontal and 0.007 ft. vertical (which the vertical is acceptable). You say you are 3/64th of an inch off in Long. Both of your Lat/Long were entered into Trimble business center. If i was processing the data, i would Look into why they are so far off. Usually when I process OPUS vs VRS networks such as Trimble and Leica I am with in 0.01 to 0.02 feet.
