I, too, am open to all the adaptations. Each one has something to recommend them. I think the Gwenyth Paltrow is my least favorite, but only because of the actress. The 2009 version really lets you breath and get a lot of detail in, while the 2020, I find, is enjoyable for being so different in expressing the comedy aspect. For those who already know the story, I think it a refreshing new look. This version is probably most like the book.

Except the 2020 version. That Emma is one mean girl and that Harriet is a stupid twit. Sorry. Have enjoyed all the others, even with rewrites.

I simply couldn't bear to watch the 2020 Emma till the end. It reminded me of an earlier attempt to watch the 2005 P&P, when I didn't make it past the first 20 minutes. As far as movie adaptations go, I would inifinitely prefer Gwyneth Paltrow version over the 2020 monstrosity any day.

My favourite *Emma* adaptation! It has so much of the Austen societal values, and the actors are amazing. Not, afraid to portray their characters as flawed and human.

I like this version 10000000 times more than the 2008 version. However, the movie 1995 verson still remains my favourite. Jeremy Northam is simply irresistible, sympathetic and great as Knightley. If only Beckinsale had replaced Palthrow, that film would have been perfect (sorry, I don't like Palthrow, Kate Becksinsale is so much better)

In my opinion, Kate Beckinsale is my favorite Emma. Kate is much better than Gwyneth Paltrow.
@MissJessyeNorman10 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I think it's a no brainer. Kate Beckinsale, is a better actress in every respect. She would surpass Paltrow in almost any role--but particularly in a role like this. I.e. a period role based on our greatest literature. BUT, as S. Labouisse said below, the '72 version really is the gold standard for this role on film. Godwin played the role so deftly; you are able to understand every nuance of her character, the societal demands that are placed upon her, the peculiar brand of pressures she must contend with from her family--and all of the challenges that those opposing demands create for her/foster in her. She is a revelation. She's not afraid to let you not like Emma. But slowly, through her emotional growth, you come to understand from where her neurosis originates. You begin to forgive her her faults, and cheer her on as she tries to become a better person.
@nataliabelmarconcha814710 жыл бұрын
MissJessyeNorman Thanks for your opinion. I don't think Gwyneth Paltrow is bad actress, but is not made for the role of Emma despite being nominated for such action and have seen several versions adapted from the book Emma and despite not being a book so prominent as Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility, Emma is the character that stands out from the others, because she's the only one not always home altruistic feelings as the other protagonists of Austen. And Kate Beckinsale achieves much better than Paltrow, because she plays a Emma seems almost an animated cartoon, while Beckinsale interpretation goes well, she looks like the real Emma in the book and she look good with the dresses. As you said yourself, doesn't care if she dislike the audience, because that is the essence of Emma, she's not a bad person, but may displease her frivolity. It's a constantly evolving character and Kate manages to play very well.
@Circa16284 жыл бұрын
@@nataliabelmarconcha8147 I agree also. Kate Beckinsale also portrayed a younger more immature woman. With the know-it-all attitude of a teenager who believes she has a firm grasp of her world.

Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong were the best Emma and Mr Knightley. Great acting, beautiful characters. So sad that the photography is poor. Almost documentary quality… Compared to the most poetic pride and prejudice with Keira and Matthew which was a real masterpiece.
@vineethg62594 жыл бұрын
Maybe its just me, but somehow Mark Strong doesn't look 'English' enough for the role of Mr. Knightley. I almost thought he was of South Asian descent, until I read that he is of Austrian-Italian ancestry instead. That said I must say they got the age difference between Emma and Mr. Knightley more correct here. Most other adaptations miss that crucial detail. After all, Mr. Knightley held baby Emma in his arms when he was sixteen!
