She means he died the moment he was born because he was born for food. He was born to die. So she considered him dead the moment he was born since she thought she knew his fate.

@@BrokenEclipse I am aware that she’s his child, I’ve read and watched tpn like 50 times lmao, don’t need to remind me. My point is, she said he died when he was born. This is because he was born to die. Ray was born to be food. So no, of course he didn’t actually die as a baby, but she meant it figuratively that he died when he was born. I actually quite like that line. It’s poetic and shows how devastated she must have been to have to birth a child that she’ll raise to be eaten. Of course she would consider him dead the moment he’s born, she knows his fate. She looks at the child she knows will be eaten and is just like “well, he’s mine-as-well dead, I know he’s not getting past 12.” Ray just didn’t understand this, and thought she meant he literally wasn’t the child she had, when in reality, she was just being poetic about it because she didn’t want him to know (or maybe perhaps thought he’d figure out her saying it in such a vague way, because he’s smart). It wasn’t just “her lying”, it was her being figurative and vague.
