I just read that this was actually about an Indian ringneck parakeet she once had as a pet, and had to give up because of constant touring and being away from home. She said it was an emotional song to record because that bird meant a lot to her. :3 I used to think it was about a mother saying goodbye to her son who was leaving home (the nest/flying the coop). Whatever it means to you, it's such a beautiful song... always gets a lump in my throat.
