Emma's been quite consistent this year and has a lot to build on going forward. Yes, this was a tough 1st round battle, and that's tennis. She's had surgery on her wrists and ankles, and earlier this month, she reached the Citi quarter finals. She recently pulled out of doubles at Wimbledon to manage injuries. I'm sure there's more to come from her. And even if she doesn't win another slam, she's richer than most people here, so is doing something right.

Note to all future young British tennis players, winning a grand slam is not enough in the eyes of the British press and public. You have to win more tournaments afterwards to justify your win. Try not to be famous from your tennis, or make any money from endorsements to help finance your career. You should not be injured ever and try to keep just one coach in your whole tennis profession. Don't show any type of confidence and play down your likeness and looks, because you don't deserve it because you only won one grand slam. It was pure luck ...Of course, I am kidding here, but this is what I am constantly hearing from haters, the press, etc. How is this going to inspire future young tennis players from achieving greatness and playing to their potential if they constantly see a successful fellow tennis player such as Emma being hated and mocked like this. Go back to the journey that Emma won the US Open. She came to the US, played a bunch of lower level tournaments and played really well. Then the Qualies at the US Open, then got a bit lucky with the draw, no top 10 along the way. Now she would not be Oxford material IF she thinks she can just show up at any tournament, let alone the Majors and can just win, win her way to the Final and the Trophy. Wish it could be that easy, Emma. Go ask Coco, Pegula, Sabalenka, Quinweng Zheng, Ons, etc... who are one or two level BETTER than Emma right now. To win, you much be very fit and are match sharp and hope for a bit of luck in your draw, and hope in the matches, you play just a bit better than your opponent. POINT: If you truly love tennis, Emma, just go play matter win or loss or the name of the tournament. Eventually, you will grow and become a very good tennis player. Forget about your US Open trophy. If you can win the 2nd US Open, now, that is the one you will cherish for the rest of your life. Am I wrong, Emma? Or perhaps you're way smarter than me at the age of 21.

Why is she talking like Murray🤣🤣🤣 shame she can’t play like him 😅😅😅
@gabrielkonrad24 ай бұрын
She realises she's made a mistake and wants to learn from it. Its her first year back from a year off because of injury/operations and she's beaten Pegula and Sahkari and played well against the top 2 in the world. Let's see what the next couple of years bring before making judgements.

Use of the word haters is a very ignorant thing to say if somebody disagrees with somebody you call them a hater that is such a stupid word that is coming to our lexicon. The fact is she hasn’t been playing enough matches to get better. She should’ve qualified in one of the 1000 tournaments. She brought all this on herself so she needs to put on her big girl pants that start doing what the other players are doing in order to become a better player. And she’s one of my favorite players but I don’t kiss any players behind. I tell it like it is

Fully agree with the last comment, I cannot think of any other tennis player who thinks training blocks are enough to win matches. She needs matches to get her body used to them, alas that US Open win messed things up too much. There is no doubt that she could be very good and definitely top 10 at the very least.
@Ivanntu4 ай бұрын
I don't agree. Her realistic level is exactly where she is now, around 50-100. Maybe she can go to 30-50, but she hasn't really demonstrated consistent level to go beyond that. The only reason she was in top 10 was the US Open win.

Emma isn’t as half as talented as she would like to think.Thats the problem. Her excuses with injuries is wearing thin.The tears are not helpful. She isn’t a top international tennis player ,and she knows that.She only won the American Open because that year the competition wasn’t as hard as it usually is. She has her millions curtesy of the Tennis World and deals to wear trinkets from expensive backers. She once said her Dad looked after the money side of things. Is he still doing that.? She’s not dedicated to being a top tennis player,unless of course she can park her rather tacky Porsche she’s acquired in centre court. Other young tennis players who are far more dedicated to the game than Emma is should be given the chance to shine.

Looking at that interview I think the penny has finally dropped with Emma. There is no substitute for match play and she is clearly not getting enough. I have watched a couple of games recently from her 2021 success in NY and I have to say her fitness then looks far superior to what it is now. There is no doubt she benefited greatly from playing qualies and was very sharp as she went into the main draw. She says she is a better player now, don’t agree, her movement and service consistency were far superior then. I believe she can get into the top 30 if she plays more tournaments but I would not see her much higher than that with her current game. Great win over Sakari at Wimbledon but Maria beat herself to some degree and is struggling generally. Again great win over Pegula at Eastbourne but she had just won Berlin I think and looked a little jaded. I am not trying to detract from these achievements, I am a massive Emma fan, but I watch a lot of tennis and I think expectations need tempering, there are lot of very good players out there, probably more than in 2021, and you always run the risk of a tough first round opponent with such a low ranking.

Her aggressive forehand game is gone! She gets smashed off the court .e.g Sun at Wimbledon, now Kenin US Open. Why does she turn up at a match not ready to compete? Her 1st serve is a lottery! What is she and her coaching team doing! They play well against her because she returns balls that are setup for them to smash back across the court. Whatever she does in training isn’t good enough!

She sounds so much like a positive thinker, she must have read those "growth" mindset books. I did better, I did well, opponent just did better. Sometimes, positive thinking does not mean you should not look at what you did badly, like if you only think "There are no weeds in the garden" whilst not mowing the lawn, your garden will be overgrown with weeds.

I think she is a very talented human being who has a lot to offer the world, but i dont think tennis is her great love. I would advise Emma to pursue her hearts desire. She doesn't need all of the aggro she gets through being a half hearted tennis pro. I wish her well.

I don't think that her results are that bad, considering she didn't also play in so many tournaments like Roland Garros and the two masters before the US Open. I wouldn't have even thought she would break into the top 100 up to now and she did. Her realistic level for me is 50-100. They just keep overestimating her a lot, because of 1 won tournament, even if it is a grand slam (it's still played 2 out of 3 sets in the women tour, like every other tournament).
