Emma Roberts and Liz Garcia discuss Prime Video’s film “Space Cadet,” which premiered July 4, 2024.
Tiffany “Rex” Simpson (Emma Roberts) has always dreamed of going to space, but life isn’t going quite as planned. Determined to turn things around, she aims high and with the embellishing touch of her supportive best friend Nadine (Poppy Liu), her “doctored” application lands her in NASA’s ultra-competitive astronaut training program. In over her head, Rex relies on her quick wits, moxie and determination to get to the top of her class. NASA program directors Pam (Gabrielle Union) and Logan (Tom Hopper) certainly take notice, but can this Florida girl get through training and into the cosmos before she blows her cover? Written and directed by Liz W. Garcia, Space Cadet is a comedy about the power of being yourself, following your dreams and shooting for the stars.

This was a good interview but I think they all missed it. They missed why I thought this movie was great and wanted to watch it over and over again. It was all about how Emma Roberts really lived her character in this movie, so that we the audience also vicariously lived through the movie as well. Emma Roberts portrayed the Florida girl vibrantly - alligator wrestling Rex Simpson who was so adorably named Rex since she walked like a dinosaur as a child. I loved the scene where she sat with her mother watching the shuttle launch and saying with certainty that she would be an astronaut. Emma Roberts made us live Rex Simpson in this movie. We felt the stardust in her bones, the drive that overshadowed her silly moments and the final satisfaction from telling her mom in heaven that she DID IT.
