Crested Geckos, The Best Pet Reptile! (Beginners + Experienced Keepers!)

Crested geckos are a commonly kept lizard in the pet trade. In my opinion, crested geckos make one of the best pet reptiles for many different people. In this video, I discuss why I feel that crested geckos can make good pets for both beginner reptile keepers, and experienced hobbyists!
Disclaimer: This is not meant to be a complete care video. If considering a crested gecko, please do more research and do not just take what I say as facts. There is no such thing as a "perfect pet" for everyone. One animal may be a great fit for some people, but a terrible choice for others. Just because I say this animal may be a good pet for some people, that does not guarantee that it will be a good pet for you and you should do your own research to determine if this will be a good pet or not.

i got my crested gecko two weeks ago and i started handling her five days ago. she's adapting so well and is the absolute sweetest. she was really scared at first, but last night (which was the 5th night night,) she willingly walked into my hands and jumped onto my sweatshirt! I 100% recommend crested geckos, all have different personalities but with consistent handling and great care, they are the sweetest and coolest reptiles with very low maintenance care.. best first reptile i could ever choose to own :)

She accidentally bit my hand when I was hand feeding her her and then ran onto the little climbing thing I keep out when handing her like nothing ever happened! I've handled mine a couple of times and I'm fine if someone passes her to me but I just have a mental block when it comes to picking her up like I'm not too bothered if she bites me because I know it won't hurt I'm just scared of the suspense if that makes sense. Does anyone have any tips or advice as it's really frustrating, she's not even that skittish!

Samantha Simpson im no expert, but i would consider getting one. They are pretty good for beginners. If your two beardies are doing good. Im sure a blue tongue skink would be perfect. Just do your research.

I got my little Zelda on June 18 and she is my first reptile :). Before I got her I went online and did some research of crested geckos so that I would be ready for it. And I have watched some of your videos about your reptiles and their enclousers. And all I can say about your videos is this :). Don’t ever stop uploading videos about your reptiles :). I think they are very good to watch for new owners of reptiles :). The enclouser for my Zelda is 45cm x 45cm x 60cm(length, width and height). And I have been thinking about getting her a newer and bigger enclouser so that she will have more hiding places and more plants. I’m still learning more and more about crested geckos so that I can make sure that she is healthy, happy and not feeling stressed :). So thank you Emma for making these videos :). I hope that you will never stop doing these videos :).

I would recommend them for a beginner reptile I have one hes a year old an his name is eddie he is alittle slow at growing but hes ten times bigger than when I got him when he was 4 weeks old.

I think that many people say that crested geckos don’t require the keeping of live insects because they are usually only offered once a week (or even less often in my experience). Therefore, you could pick up four or five crickets in a bag once a week (dust them if needed) and throw them in the enclosure. This would mean you wouldn’t have to actually keep the insects in your house.

I recently discovered thrive tanks at pet smart, I was so surprised at how inexpensive they are! I got 2 hexagon equivalents to 20 gallon with a front opening door and each tank was only 99! Putting that out there for anyone researching cresties and looking at tank options. I originally was going to get the 18x18x24 exo Terra but these were like almost 60$ cheaper and in my opinion way cooler lookin!

I really want a crested gecko and currently trying to convince my mom she seems more open about it because i used to want a beardie but she didn't like the massive amount of feeder insects they eat plus how much space they take up. So she likes the idea of a crestie more. I am currently doing research and planning on paying for it all myself yes i have a job/money but I'm still only 15 and i wouldn't get one without my parents permission. I might be getting one soon!! I’m doing lots of research then I can tell my mom all of my research so she might let me get one. I already told her lots about then but I’m still doing more research! I wanna get a crested gecko, I’ve priced everything out and I currently am thinking about getting a 10 gallon enclosure, I cannot afford a 20 gallon and all the stuff that a crested gecko needs. I know adult needs a 20 gallon but I’m getting a young one. I will be getting a job in once I turn 15. (In a few months) so I’m thinking of starting the gecko on a 10 gallon then as it grows I will work towards getting a 20 gallon. Do you think a crested gecko will be ok in a temporary 10 gallon tank

Do you hand feed your gecko or leave the food in the vivarium? If you leave the food in the viv it's possible that your gecko is eating when you're not around, if you find any gecko poop that means she's eating! I have only seen my crestie eat a couple times, she usually eats when I'm not around. :)

My gecko will sleep all day in between some leaves and then move to the edge of her hide at night like not even go in it just stand on the edge and just stay there for hours and be in the exact same place when I check on her every hour or so, is this normal? Edit: I took the substrate out for a day because I couldn't find her and it's a long story, I'm going to put her substrate back tomorrow but tonight she keeps hunting random shadows below her and is transfixed on one spot and tries to lunge at me when I walk past, but she doesn't seem aggressive it's almost as if she thinks I'm an insect, is this also normal behaviour?

Could I house 2 crested gecko females (that get along) in a 36 long by 18 deep by 18 tall? I currently have them separate in 18longx18deepx24 tall each. I have also put them both in those single enclosures before. I was wondering if it would be bad to have them in an enclosure that is only 18 inches tall instead of 24 inches tall... but now instead of 18 long they will be 36 long. So it's a trade off, but I can have vines and branches going from a bottom to top corner across the terrarium. Do you think this would still be suitable? I want to build a bio active but in that tank and I don't want to have to buy another tank unless I need to. So 36 long, 18 deep and 18 tall. Is that suitable? Currently in a 18long by 18deep by 24tall.

The powder gets mixed with water all in one bowl. My crested geckos don’t have water bowls, they drink water droplets off of leaves when I mist their enclosure

Well.....my crested gecko came from our friend that had crested gecko babys from there male and female so he gave us to and her brother didn't make it cuz my sister did not take care of it but anyway she used to stay in a plastic container and and it was not deep so she now she lives in a tank and she stays at the bottoms and top from time too time so ....😁😁
