One of the meals Agnes provided for Wanda was Steak Diane. It's a dish of pan-fried beefsteak with a sauce made from the seasoned pan juices. It is considered retro cuisine as it came out in the 40s through the 60s. 😊

The cool part of this episode is it WAS filmed before a live studio audience, and they used all practical effects to make it feel like the 50s sitcoms. Couple of notes... watch for the aspect ratio, and also check for post credit scenes (which show up in later episodes).

And I love the fact that the LEGEND, Dick van Dyke, was on set as a consultant for this. They really took such care with the details in this series.

This series is a callback to the great sitcoms of the last 70 years, with each episode paying homage to a particular decade of television. This episode is the 1950s, with I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

I thought it was weird at first, but looking back on it, I find the 50s style of sitcom unique. Brings you back to shows like “I Love Lucy” and “Dick Van Dyke.” Also love the Twilight Zone references.

Hey, Emme! I really enjoyed "WandaVision" and thought it was the best of the DPlus TV shows. It works as both a sitcom and a dark "Twilight Zone"/"Black Mirror" episode. EPISODE 1: The sitcom being parodied was "The Dick van Dyke Show". Dick van Dyke himself consulted on the set design and gags like tripping over the ottoman. He also played the ukelele like Bettany does to entertain his guests. The program aired in the early '60's but had the sensibility of a '50's sitcom. This episode was the only one filmed before a live studio audience! Casting Debra Jo Rupp who played Kitty on "That '70's Show" was a nice touch! She was begging Wanda through a forced smile to save Arthur! The blinking red light on the Stark Industries toaster was the only spot of color. The logo on the journal and the monitor to the left of the TV is for the S.W.O.R.D. Agency. SWORD is SHIELD's space division monitoring extraterrestrial threats. The acronym in the comics means Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department. In the MCU, the acronym has a different meaning. The comic story being adapted here is "The Vision and the Scarlet Witch" 1985 suburban domesticity series written by Steve Englehart and illustrated by Richard Howell. In the 12-issue mini-series, the duo take a sabbatical from the Avengers and live as a suburban couple.

This episode was based on The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched more than I Love Lucy but there are references to a bunch of 50s/early 60s TV shows sprinkled in. Elisibeth Olsen based her performance on the female leads of all three shows but for me the Mary Tyler Moore influence is the most obvious.

The first three episodes aren’t my favorites, but they help to build up the story they wanted to tell. I personally liked the concept of this episode in particular. It was actually filmed in front of a live studio audience. Granted there were some Disney Channel sitcom laugh tracks included, but one audience was fortunate enough to watch the cast tape the first episode in color.
