That was an incredible set, exceptional even by Emmet's high standards -- a master class by all concerned in how to tell a surprise-packed musical story while swinging from note one. And where else are you going to hear superb young singers like Lucy Yeghiazarian and Samara Joy, as well as great veterans like Catherine Russell and Mary Stallings? I started going to NYC jazz clubs in 1956 when I turned eighteen, and heard now-mythical players like Miles, Diz, Monk, Bud, Trane, Prez, Basie, and many others. Now, when I hear Emmet and the instrumentalists and singers who perform at his place, I can truly say that the music is still in good hands, and will undoubtedly continue to be. So thank you all. We need you, now more than ever.

For five weeks, the sweetest comforts of Emmet’s Place were shared with *our jazz family across Europe* 🌍🙏🏽🙌🏼🌏… *Emmet and the Trio proved that ‘home’ can be created wherever their travels take them.* (And finally stepping foot through one’s own front-door, can also feel incredible.) *~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Last night, Emmet returned to familiar territory, familiar faces, & a piano bench that awaited his arrival. 🎹 *Vocalist, Lucy Yeghiazaryan headlined this mini homecoming.* She, last, graced the stage during her Emmet’s Place debut in vol. 50 - (accompanied by her better half & tenor saxophonist Grant Stewart, who also swung hard with us in vol. 79) *Lucy’s dynamism, warmth, & stunning control capture a golden age of the genre,* that transports us to the bandstands of renown. 🎙✨ She takes us home with her *immaculate scatting & ever-evolving sensibility.* *~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *Featured drummer, Joseph Farnsworth, is the personification of “c-l-e-a-n cat,” who enamors us with the precision of his cymbals…and the finesse of his threads.* 😼🥁👔 We last swung with Joe in the celebration of friend & leader, the late, great Cedar Walton (vol. 82). Joe carries a special tie to the music’s *history* & is *among the coolest of voices to narrate little-known events that make this tradition hipper than we dare know* …(and in sweet affirmation of his legacy, a special seat was reserved for Joe’s parents, ‘Mama & Papa Farnsworth’, to swing along last night. ♥️) *~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *Emmet’s Place is a sanctuary in every sense* - the *inter-connectivity* between musicians, devotees, loved ones, & curious newcomers, *expands our understanding of what “home” can be* …💡🏡⛩🏞🌌🙏🏽🎼 At various times, we see the modularity of the trio’s personnel to adapt to circumstances & availability. *There is an ongoing respect among the cats that can not be overstated, where discrete contributions as well as enduring membership are deeply valued.* In the periodic absence of our beloved Russell Hall and Kyle Poole, a strong musical kinship keeps the grooves alive. *~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ As a ‘new’ member to the EP family, *Mark Lewandowski* made his living-room debut… A *supreme bassist,* Mark always keeps the tempo swingin’ and stays in-demand - playing in countless ensembles, across NYC, and beyond. 🎶🎻 He can, often, be found with counterpart *Benny Benack, III …our trumpet champion and crooner, who demonstrates super-hero endurance on the NY scene.* Along with Emmet & others, he understands the *gravity of this musical tradition within Black American music.* 🎺🌍 Benny has been on the front-lines throughout the pandemic & has *mobilized fellow cats to play throughout the city, while keeping hearts lifted.* And, in true form, he stopped by last night to drop some unmitigated goodness on all of us. It is a huge undertaking to hit the ground running after a demanding overseas tour… We deeply appreciate the time & energy poured into Monday night’s performance,…and the precious sponsorship to make it happen. 🙏🏽💯👏🏼♥️ And among the cadre of club owners who invest their heart & passion into the music, Gianni Valenti has *dedicated a space for modern masters & up and coming talent.* 🏆 With the vision of Emmet, the Trio & featured guests, we experience a generation that mirrors the exuberance of Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker, himself, & his legendary quintet. . .more than 7 decades earlier. *~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ In the *summer of 2021,* Emmet, Russell, & Kyle were privileged to be the very first performers to *headline Birdland’s re-opening.* As the case for many beloved venues, small & large, the club had been shuttered for well over a year. It’s overwhelming to consider the series of events & the faithful steps towards recovery. And now, the Trio makes their second, most recent appearance.
