The most impressive thing about Emmet Cohen, is that he has absolutely mastered all the jazz aesthetics of his instrument, from 20’s stride to Kurt. That dude is the most versatile cat i have ever heard.

I'm old school in my taste. I love to hear some young me out here really speaking the language. I had the privilege of growing up playing in school with Patrick Bartley (Alto Sax). It was a treat. It's encouraging to hear how good, natural, organic, and authentic he still sounds today.

Patrick obviously killed it! But let’s take a moment, everyone else absolutely NAILED IT TO THE WALL!! Sax, trumpet drums bass and piano solo absolutely on point, ABSOLUTE MASTERS OF THEIR ART! EMMET BRUCE RUSSEL JOE AND PATRICK 💪

*Never heard Ugetsu played like this in my life.* Patrick’s wailing left me in a puddle. Bruce’s horn is wicked refinement. Emmet torched his piano solo, my god...& the rhythm is beyond...🔥24:13 Joooe, our maaan....Russell, that baaass.🙌🏽. purely passionate about this. Bartley's *Spirit of Freedom* is superb, (just as his Japanese!) 1:17:11 *...Come Sunday* is sublime.1:32:55

I used to play at jam sessions with Patrick and Russel in south Florida many years ago . I knew they were something special back then and boy was I right. Seeing them play has motivated me to practice again . Maybe I’ll get to play a tune or two with them again if I’m lucky.

sometimes you hear a soloist just doesnt quite bring out the color in the changes. it feels like trying to crack your knuckle and failing. patrick bartley is the absolute antidote to that. god damn!
