When I was in the Marines those baby Tabascos were a God send, we never really got to pick our MRE's, so what you got is what you got, unless a buddy was willing to trade with you. When you got a crappy MRE you Tabasco the heck out of it, made eating it a lot easier.

My dad was in the marines during Korea... not in combat but nevertheless, one of his buddies was part of the family that made tobasco and I guess he got it in care packages, besides whatever else. Dad said they called it "survival sauce."

smol boi lemon seedling the heaters last like 20 minutes but some times they are hit or miss. 20 minutes of good heat and cooking capability. So what I’ll do is I’ll cook my main item for about 10 to 15 minutes along with something else if I can fit it and then use the remaining heat to keep warm or heat up another item. this might sound really random, but i love Emmy’s sense of food neutrality. i feel like so many food youtubers will throw in comments like “oh, don’t want to eat too much of this one!” or say things about dieting/foods being “bad”. i’ve never witnessed Emmy do that, even with more artificial and processed (read: less nutritious) foods, she’ll stick to very matter-of-fact wording and comments about the taste and feel. it’s really refreshing and nice to see, especially with so many people being influenced by the culture around “good foods” and “bad foods”. :)

You always carry water - you use it to wash up in, drink, make food or hot drinks. Powdered coffee or tea, or hot chocolate powder and/or a milk powder used to come in the real MREs. Sugar too, and the flavored energy drink powders, all convenient to carry, just add water.

at Cat - Tabasco sauce is going to be a highly sought after item 40 years from now in the year 2060 when the Zombie Apocalypse is going on. Tobasco is a endangered item right now. it only comes from the state of Louisiana , also it comes from the wetlands. and the company said they had no plans to move the business to another location. so after the sea level rises from the flood after the icecaps melt due to global warming theres not going to be Tobasco sauce in the future, its a endangered item someday it will be extinct. so i think that 40 or 50 years from now Tobasco will be a highly sought after item when the Zombie apocalypse is going on.

It is high, but the Military generally drink lots of water. So consuming MRE's generally don't cause any more problems than constipation. 😂 My husband hated having to eat them.

For a civilian probably, but in the military you are expending 4k plus calories a day and sweating your ass off 24/7. One needs those electrolytes. Civilian MRE's should be totally different.

MRE's are a last resort food even in the military. Their hi calorie foods, designed for short ops or emergency's and are never meant to be eaten for long periods.

The smaller Mocha first strike bar isn’t typically found in your traditional MRE, it’s actually part of the MOARS pack which is something given to you for long hours on the field without sleep.. it has caffeine in addition to all the other nutrients

I always preferred a Goody cool orange powder the caffeine, aspirin and acetaminophen combo eases hurts and gives a burst of energy, cures a migraine in 20 minutes and keeps you going. Army did not like them, however, because aspirin can cause a minor wound to keep bleeding before you could get to medical treatment.

I’ve only been out of the military for 6 years and the tiny Tabascos were still in the MREs then. Those were used as currency on month long training exercises, we loved them especially the green.

😂 Some of the MREs are pretty bad. My husband and the guys used to enjoy eating certain ones. But detested others. Even my son & brother dislike certain ones, but don't mind others. Too salty for me, plus they tend to cause constipation.

Tabasco sauce was a must, until they removed it from the MREs. Guys were not happy about that! The rinky dink bottle was never a problem regarding weight. Not when you realize that they generally carry 50+ lbs or more out on patrol/missions. (My husband carried more, as EOD, he lugged the robot as well as his personal equipment.)
