You might want to look into an instant pot, the main advantage of these is portability but neither of these seems to have a lot of Versatility beyond what you can get out of a standard small rice cooker or crock pot. If you're just setting up a desktop kitchen for a dorm or efficiency apartment you will get a lot more mileage out of an instant pot. That being said I suspect that these are a lot cheaper then a full-blown instant pot and I consider a rice cooker one of the most wonderful tools ever conceived for a extreme budget situation. Free Pro tip a good rice cooker can make a Zatarain's box simply by dumping in the ingredients in flipping a switch

Wasn’t in college, had a friend and I smoked hookah. Conveniently my electric burner was good enough to cook homemade meals and since all I had to do was bring a small pot or small pan- we would make meals that everyone could eat and it was more convenient for me since I knew how to make homemade beef egg rolls (lumpia). Made a good side hustle out of it for anybody close by that wanted fried rice with an egg roll or 3:)
