Its more crazy if you think it all started japanese wierd way of doing emoticones (thats why they culturly so japanese) in mobile phones and Apple randomly annouceing support of it which suppose to be just for japanese market, making rest of the world know about them, which later lead to there standarization (as emoji originally used unicode private character range, space that should not have any standarized characters)
