The back yard looks gorgeous. I'm just wondering if they could have also put one of those chairlifts to help her get upstairs inside the house, it looked like such an effort for her to get upstairs with her husband.

The first thing I thought that they would do, is put in a stairlift, which costs less than $5,000, and I'm sure Acorn Stairlifts would have donated one.

Everyone in the comments is ridiculous, how about appreciating what they did instead of pointing out what they didn’t do. That lift costs a lot, also they asked for the outside to be done not the inside, Yea she has issues on the steps but they didn’t ask for the inside to be redone at all.
@elizamilton26
@elizamilton26 3 жыл бұрын
The thing a lot of people may not consider is that she is very particular about what sort of lift she wants & what will keep her home beautiful & functional. My grandmother is very specific about the things in her home & when it came to making her home handicap accessible, it didn’t happen super quick because we had to make sure everything was to her exact liking in every way. The husband here said himself that he would be thinking & considering those things now, so I’m sure they went out & did their own shopping. It’s a very normal/possible occurrence, I don’t know why people are being so rude in the comments.🤷‍♀️

I have to agree with other comments regarding her ability to get up and down stairs inside the home. George, you need to go back to this house and rework that stairwell completely. It looks as though the stairway is wide enough to put a small lift in. I do appreciate the outdoor space and her ability to access that independently. Having a place outdoors is huge and I know she must be thrilled to go out there without asking for help! Keep paying it forward.

I have MS also and when we were looking for a new house, we really wanted a single floor ranch. However, there weren't many good homes in our price range. So, we considered getting a stair lift if we would have to get a house with more than one floor. One of the homes we saw came with a stair lift and we were told they were fairly easy to put in most stairs.

@@jydeinden yeah I know that... But she has a Family thats around her Most of the time and i think ... Sorry if that offends someone, americans seem to think Service animals are Something(almost) everyone should have. Working with disabled people, i know that the Number one Thing they want is, to be Independent. Maybe Not all of them, maybe it's Just me thinking it, but taking Care of a dog or any animal is Something that Takes time and dedication. Even Service animals. And when you are restricted in your abilities Not everyone has the Energy to, next to a family also take Care of an animal... But maybe thats Just me. Also trained, good service animals are pretty expencive.

Love teachers and their financial sacrifices and so glad Mrs. Klein was assisted, but can we have a national referendum on talking about yourself in third person with kids? We don't do this in any other context. Referring to herself as "Mrs. KIein" and then to George as George sends such a condescending and mixed message. Why isn't George referred to as "Mr. Oliphant" especially since none of these kids has any reason to be involved in this?

I used to be a big fan of DIY programs,, but after reading a good amount of shows are faked, had turned me off. One question I have in regards to George. Exactly how long does it take to redo a room or rooms? For example, if a show is shot during winter, you can tell the segments are done out of sequence. One shot will have snow falling, then another will show piles of snow everywhere then a small amount of show, or no snow at all. Exactly how long does a remake take? Is the families staying in a hotel/motel or with family or friends during the entire redo?
@biddiemutter3481
@biddiemutter3481 Жыл бұрын
Three weeks has been mentioned in an episode, but it must be dependent upon the size of the project. I don't suppose this one took 3 weeks. In this one, it was a hotel, but again, it isn't always if there's someone they can stay with.

Yeah but ..... gorgeous backyard and that’s what they ask for, but .... but ... they know you do much more than requested. If the electric is off, she still can’t get off the porch. Showing her struggling to get upstairs, and then not giving her a downstairs bedroom seems so not “George like.” Maybe you tried, maybe there were extenuating circumstances and on and on and on. But if you weren’t going to give her a bedroom downstairs or a chair lift upstairs, it was invasive and unnecessary to show her struggle to get upstairs. That was a real disappointment. Seems a regular wheelchair ramp outside since it was in the backyard, and a stair lift upstairs would have been better. But, backyard is great.
@sammyjo8109
@sammyjo8109 4 жыл бұрын
She specifically refused a wooden wheel chair ramp, that's why she didn't have one before George came. She did not want anything out front to deter from the looks of her house. Evidently the family didn't want anything done to the interior of the home. Possibly she is still in denial of her condition.

That "dry well" they discovered, in rural areas, is known as a 'septic tank.' Kind'a glad George _didn't_ go down into the well. I don't think 3M donated the equipment he'd need for that little excursion. Also, does the family enjoy the tedious climb helping her up and down the stairs all of the time? I hope so, because no one seems to have addressed that problem. But hey, the backyard looks _faaaabulous!_
@claudeusgothicus6453
@claudeusgothicus6453 4 жыл бұрын
No, a 'dry well' is absolutely not the same thing as a 'septic tank' but confusion is understandable if you've never been the owner of a house with a septic tank.
@jamesanthony8438
@jamesanthony8438 4 жыл бұрын
@@claudeusgothicus6453 I helped put in the septic tank on our old house 40 years ago. That dry well looked exactly like it, only half the size or so.
@claudeusgothicus6453
@claudeusgothicus6453 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamesanthony8438 - Although I can understand how it might have 'looked' similar because they're both larger holes in the ground, they do serve very different purposes. The function of a septic tank is to contain the 'refuse' from the house drains until the solid matter breaks down. Once the liquids contained within reach a certain point that waste water is then sent through connecting pipes to a distribution box which further channels it into a series of buried lines in the yard. A septic tank is the sewer system for a house that isn't connected to the city sewer. And depent upon the tanks capacity, it requires peridoc clean out by a liscensed service provider. Whereas a 'dry well' is holding tank underground that is designed to store, and then slowely release rain water 'run off' when the environment cannot handle it to prevent the surrounding ground surfaces from flooding. A 'dry well' also uses a series of underground lines to do this, however it is not designed, nor constructed to, handle a houses sewage. Raw sewage requires specific traps designed to prevent the noxious gas produced from entering the home because this gas is actually capable of exploding under certain conditions. This is why septic tanks require very specific ventelation along with the other features legally required for a functional sewer system. I hope that explanation can help you to understand, at least somewhat, the differences between the two systems.
