I often get questions about the relevancy of the Bible to contemporary issues such as trauma, abuse, etc. I believe the Bible speaks to human suffering in various contexts; but not only that, I believe it also offers answers to healing and recovery.
@YahwehisGlory4 жыл бұрын
Please,I'm a Christian,30yrs. Its been a year since I came to know about Jesus Christ as The Healer;yet I still feel sick. I feel the need to speak to someone else cause every believer around me says Jesus has set me free already,I should put my past away and I'm trying but I know what I'm going through daily in silence. Feeling insecure, craving for love and attention and when I don't get it;I sunk up. I feel extremely worthless and like God don't even know me or is interested in me. I really wish to die;then I'm told God won't let me go HOME until my assignment is done;and I don't even know what that means.
@SophiliaLarkWoodbury4 жыл бұрын
@@YahwehisGlory Thank you for taking the time to comment on my video and share a little bit about the pain you're still experiencing after converting to Christianity. Religion is a hard thing, because sometimes what we learn in the sacred texts end up being just someone's opinion of what works, but in reality, religion alone cannot provide the healing that is needed. When I made this video last year, I was sure that Christianity was the answer to my problems, but I was still deep in the search, and today, I believe I have found a better path as a Deist. I believe the Bible has great things to teach, but it is definitely not the only or the most accurate source for how we should address problems resulting from the human condition in the 21st century. Specifically regarding trauma, if you have gone through horrific abuse at the hands of other people and have not fully processed that experience, no amount of prayer, scripture reading, or religion is going to cure that. Unfortunately, time does not heal all wounds, because it takes active work towards healing to bring about healing, and that journey is different for every person. As a Deist, I believe that God does not bend nature to human will, so it is unlikely that God is going to respond to human concerns just because we feel like he should. I live my life primarily by reason and science, although I do have some spiritual leaning, but it is more from a deistic perspective rather than from a Christian one. Life, to me, makes more sense that way. It may be that the religion (Christianity) is getting in the way of your healing.
@YahwehisGlory4 жыл бұрын
@@SophiliaLarkWoodbury this,is hard to process. But thank you. I still believe Jesus Christ can help me. The word Christian came from the word Christ (Christlike). The problem is; His followers are not ready to be like Him. Compassionate, kind-hearted and meek. Everyone just wanna pass their opinion on others instead of making them see Christ. I know and believe that only Christ Jesus can help me not religion and He can use someone. And seeing your video, I thought; finally a believer is talking about mental health. But I'm sad reading this comment. Jesus Christ is the ONLY WAY, THE TRUTH AND LIFE. All the same,I really appreciate. And I'm sorry about whatever you went through yourself. Be good.

For decades I thought and was told I was afraid and anxious all the time because of lack of faith, I think CPTSD is more to blame.
@SophiliaLarkWoodbury3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and share your experiences. I'm sorry to hear that your struggle was blamed on lack of faith. Often, religions perpetuate trauma my making gaslighting statements such as the one you shared. The Bible has been used in so many inept ways to answer questions about the complexity of life. Over the years, what I've found is that faith is okay as long as it doesn't ignore other sources of explanation for the complexity of the human condition. I hope you have found trauma-informed and validating sources of healing. Complex-PTSD can take a lifetime to heal, but it is very possible to not just heal but also thrive after trauma.

From working with trauma clients, I've found that feeling that spiritual safety is really the only things that helped. Spiritual tools and that shared experience have the most impact for healing. So great you are sharing how the Bible supports this. Also such a good point that the Bible has passages written about trauma all throughout it!

Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, spirituality is a key ingredient in helping to heal trauma. They are inextricably linked. Trauma disconnects us from our core self, which includes our spiritual reality. Healing trauma helps us restore connection to our essential self, to others, and to the world around us.

They can make the person coping worse with ridicule and mandates, and dysfuctiinal relational interactions. Let's all create healthy people, trust God, support others and breed healthy environments. Thank you so much for sharing, April. I understand your sentiments. I left the church for over a decade after I discovered I had been raised in an evangelical cult and was religiously, physically, psychologically and emotionally abused from childhood to early adulthood. I have struggled for almost my entire life with forgiveness due to the obscurantism and lies forced upon me because of someone else's sadistic beliefs. It was not an easy decision to return, but I feel like I have discovered a purpose in helping others heal from trauma, especially those abused by the church.

I have talked to the ceiling. I still don't feel truly connected to any part of the trinity. In the song Fear is a Liar, I can ✔️ every single one. I just want to know what it is like to not be alone.

I'm so sorry you've been through so much pain and are still going through so much that it is impacting your spiritual walk. One thing I'm concerned about is if you have a support system that you can connect with? Maybe it's not family, but what about social service agencies, support groups, etc. It sounds like your current environment is keeping you in a state where you are not able to heal. Maybe you can start with National Domestic Violence Hotline: www.thehotline.org/ You can also check out resources in your state that help women who experience abuse and violence from their partners/spouses: www.womenshealth.gov/relationships-and-safety/get-help/state-resources

@UC0CK5W9wszYuQ1yYw4RjLzA depending on what State you live in, there might be a Church that hosts a Celebrate Recovery program, which is a bible-based 12-step program that helps people who have been abused, have suffered various traumas and betrayals to find hope. The step study groups are gender-specific, which means that you would be going through the healing process with other women.

Is that correct? You are asking if this is normal, and I would say that if you are asking the question, I believe you're asking, then there is most certainly some normalcy about your response.
