On the 2nd wave of Black Metal? Sure. Emperor, Thorns and Ved Buens Ende were in leagues of their own. Nowadays? You have Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega and Mgla that managed to elevate Black Metal to a whole new level, all three heavily influenced by the previous three, but with their own twist.

Listen to Blut Aus Nord's Memoria Vetusta II: A Dialogue With The Stars. It's like a great Emperor album that Emperor never put out. BAN is great over all too, but they do other types of black metal projects. They are the pioneers of the 3rd wave, but they'll do a melodic record, and older school stuff sometimes.

There are really awesome Blackened Death bands, like Svart Crown or Hate. But there´s no Black Metal band that comes even closer to Emperor, the melody, the strenght, the agression, the technicallity and the darkness of Emperor could not be achieved easily.

they actually started declining when releasing prometheus that album was overdone in my opinion

@@aymanlafaz nah, i still liked prometheus a lot. it has some traits of ihsahn's later solo work, and it's a bit more experimental, but it's still a fantastic album imo. emperor was always on the more progressive side of black metal, i don't think prometheus was out of character. but again, they chose to end the emperor name there, and ihsahn continued this direction with his solo work in a more pronounced fashion, which i also like a lot. so i guess that explains why i like prometheus. but whether it's up your alley or not it's nowhere near the same level of drop off of some other legendary bands.
