No, it should be "between them and us". Prepositions take the object form of the preposition. (Doesn't "between they and we" sound weird to you? It should do. They'll huddle until winter ends, usually after 2 months, by which time the mother penguins come back and take the fathers' places so that he could go find food. And no, the penguin at 1:05 is lying since doing that reduces the body surface susceptible to the wind. He soon joined the others in the huddle.
