Piers didn’t even pose a threat to the Player Character in the Games making Piers the First Evil Team Leader who isn’t Evil at all, like what’s the point of having an Evil Team if Their Leader aren’t as Evil as Guzma. Guzma at least pose a threat to The Player Characters in Pokémon Sun and Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but Piers is just a joke. I just hope Generation 9 introduced a proper Crime Syndicate/Evil Organizations such as Team Flare, Team Plasma or Team Galactic.

My biggest problem is how separated the wild area is from everything. They were just like "Welp here ya go. There's your open world." The majority is still just linear routes. They didn't even bother to give us any houses or towns in the wild area

I think that the biggest thing galar lacks is actually caves and dungeons to explore at the main game of Pokémon Sword and Shield. I have finished the main story of Pokémon Sword. But I haven’t played the DLC and I’m planning to buy both DLC to complete the games. But if I’m being honest, galar is one of the best regions in Pokémon. It’s also one of the most diverse regions we have ever seen in Pokémon. I love galar and it doesn’t deserve more hates. Because galar is so awesome. And there’s a couple of explorable/optional routes in galar to explore. The wild area also makes galar even better. But the DLC Expansion Pass makes the postgame content and exploration even better. So is galar great ? The simple answer is: Yesssss .

@@Garfewloid Yeah, that’s what makes Piers not actually evil 🦹‍♂️, Piers isn’t memorable enough, Macro Cosmos is also just a company that seeks to restore the region’s energy crisis, so this makes galar the only region without an actual villainous organizations. And the only two actual villains 🦹‍♂️ that appeared in galar are sordward and shielbert and they’re not even that threatening too. Because, There’s little villains 🦹‍♂️ in Pokémon Sword and Shield. I just hope Team Rocket 🚀 and giovanni will be the Main Antagonists for The Final Seasons of Pokémon Journeys.

If I had to describe the flaws of Sword and Shield in one word, it would be: Shallow. The towns contain almost nothing, few NPCs, no interesting events, tons of sealed off buildings, and the two most visually interesting (Spikemuth and Ballonlea) have almost nothing in terms of content. Dungeons are non-existent, no mazes, no multiple floors, no optional exploration areas. The routes are the most linear we've ever seen, which means they're mostly boring and over and forgotten in the blink of an eye. While some of the cutscenes and animations look amazing, the fast majority of them are lackluster and the draw distance really is a huge problem for immersion. The evil team and plot have basically no presence in the story, and are so non-sensical/poorly thought out that it makes you wonder why they even bothered. And the wild area... from having basically no interesting locations to discover, being just grass and trees for 90% of it, "biomes" that are basically just weather effects, a poor draw distance that makes the whole place look empty, and a general lack of things to do short of raids, the wild area ended up being disappointingly half-baked. This whole game could have used some more time in the oven, which is a shame because I think it could've been one of the coolest regions if it was just given a little more depth.

My problem with the Galar region is the SHEER amount of wasted potential. The region is based on England whitch has a rich history of Celtic, Norse and even Roman mythology; and so little of it went into the Galar region aside from ruins that you mostly can't explore. We could have had new Pokemon and regional variants based on creatures like the Kelpie, Cait Sith, Dullahan, Wild Hunt and Nuckelavee. With the amount of the region that goes unexplored, they would have been better off splitting England, Wales and Scotland into separate regions like they did with Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh (all based on Japan). It also bugs me how almost all of the Gym Leaders are dressed like Soccer players and traditional elements of English history are rarely explored. Kanto had things like Erika's kimono, Lt. Surge's army uniform and Blaine's lab coat; we could have had things like a Scottish city with highlanders or bagpipe players in kilts, or Milo modeled on a druid, or a psychic type Gym Leader modeled after Merlin but instead all of it is sports themed. Heck, even the option to have the player character wear a kilt as part of character customization would have a step up. Makes me wish for a Sword and Shield 2 just to fix some of these problems.

I think we might expect a fan upgrade of the game like all the other modded games of the series, improvement romhacks is a thing in the Pokémon fandom Dont think anything special will come out of the official release tho, even with the DLC, it's more likely it will only have more untapped potential and then Game Freak will just move on to the next generation

Pokemon makes more money than any other single franchise and yet their games have stagnated their formula is to introduce a gimmick before throwing it away for the next new game. There's practically limitless potential for the Pokemon series but they neglect to seize it for the monetary gain they get by making incremental improvements and churning out a game as regularly as possible regardless of the state it's in as shown with the recent entries.

@Bui Doi Pretty sure the player (and Hop) has to save the day anyway when Leon's boss becomes an impatient prick and nearly ends up destroying Galar. Also this is ironically the one game where the player being a major force in the story would actually make sense. They could've easily made your (and again Hop, obviously) and Leon's relationship into more of a mentor-student type. With you and Hop tagging along as training, to further test your abilities as possible replacements for Leon as the Regional Champion. Seriously, if Leon didn't think that we're worthy, why even give us the Endorsement? Because Hop is his little brother? Yeah, probably. Leon is such an arsehole. No wonder his ace is a f**king Charizard. An a-hole Pokémon for an a-hole Trainer.

I really dislike the "plot twist" evil team stuff, for a young audience it might be harder to spot, but personally I saw it coming a mile off. I get that you still end up stopping potential disaster, but having an evil team throughout that gives you motivation to become strong to stop them is so much better, plus it would be great if the game was more challenging and really made you fight hard to beat the evil team, rather than having the cover legendaries come and do all the damage for you during the main battle

Of course, even then, it's like "this dude's plan is so stupid an average child could point out its flaws" and there was *little to no setup* to make the "he's really evil" twist work... Also, didn't they do "big company guy secretly a villain" twist in another game? If so, then it's definitely a played out idea

The wild area was so hyped up and it wound up relatively flat with no real secrets. Theres a lost tower kind of thing surrounded by ghosts but theres nothing to it but to look pretty. Plus the weather is so jarring I go from intense heat to blizzard in two steps

I loved... the little bits I saw, but there's just so much of the BASE GAME that needs improving. I don't really care about what lore and intrigue the DLC will bring us if the base game isn't gonna get fixed. 3 quick things? 1: artificial roadblocks make core things inaccessible. You said it with the power plant, but also all the farms on "route 1". We have to RNG for berries, but our mom is a farmer, and we have poke jobs... why is that not a poke pelago situation? 2: gym leaders stop EXISTING after we beat them. No reentry to the gym, no finding them in the world outside their gym, NOTHING. They all have lives, according to their league cards... so... where are they? 3: plot crap: so many times we're TOLD something happens without us! Sonia and Leon regularly derail us to keep doing gym challenge and ignore plot elements, and it's not just them! Circhester's side plot of a mother and son fight being gym based is... goofy because we never SEE the other character. Where were these "celebrity" royals the entire time? How does Galar FUNCTION after beating the big bad? Etc etc etc etc etc

That's a great point about the gym leaders; we saw Trial Captains all the time. And my favorite "tell not show" moment was when a giant Perrserker was wrecking havoc and Leon fought it down and we "just missed it." Not even a cutscene, just a picture on someone's phone...

Pokémon Sword and Shield should’ve had a second wild area in the postgame filled with dungeons, forests 🌳 caves and more routes to explore and Pokémon Sword and Shield only have 10 routes in total, I would be happier if Pokémon Sword and Shield introduced at least 5 different routes in the postgame and maybe 🤔 new towns and cities 🌃 to explore in the postgame (excluding the DLC) and Pokémon Sword and Shield should have more legendaries to be captured while exploring the dungeons filled with puzzles 🧩 to solve to reward you with a legendary pokemon such as maybe 🤔 the legendary titans/regis and legendary birds 🦅 in the Main Game of Pokémon Sword and Shield (excluding the DLC). I just hoped Generation 9 added more explorable areas to explore.

The plot in Gen 8 is worse than ever. I have Suspended my Disbelief at Children defeating Criminal organisations and capturing Godlike entities for my Entire life, and yet, Sword And Shield, in trying to Sidestep that and create a 'more realistic' version, Completely Breaks that suspension by being so unbelievably Stupid and empty. Chekov's Gun is utterly Violated at every turn, and there isn't One satisfactory payoff in the whole game. The main character is left out of the majority of referenced plot events, and as such, these events Don't Matter and only serve to create plot holes. Macro Cosmos came out of nowhere and was never even explained. Team Yell was pointless. Completely. If they didn't exist; the story would be entirely the same. Bede is an Irritating Character who gets his own way at almost every turn, commits a severe Crime and walks off with a Slap on the Wrist... and even the slap on the Wrist is Taken Back! The Gym Leaders went back to almost no personality again. Most of the Major events are handled off Screen, or are handwaved until Eternatus, At which point, Hop and the Protagonist STILL overcome Eternatus by themselves, Invalidating earlier attempts at allowing competant older Trainers/Characters to handle it, and Resulting in a Halfway Mess. If they had actually committed to one way or the other, Either: Two Chosen Ones defeat the Powerful Evil force OR: The more experienced trainers handle the major events and The protagonist and their Rival focus on the Gym Challenge, Maybe it would be less Absurd. It would certainly cause less Thematic Whiplash between the Build-up and climax. The latter is A Stupid Idea for a different Reason, as it would make having these events Pointless, but at least it would be Consistent. All that without even criticising the Glaring flaws in the Gameplay and Map Design.

Hop and the player only overcome Eternatus with the help of what I'll call the Legendary Wolves, and they only happen to know about the wolves because they accompanied Sonia in her research project. This doesn't invalidate the earlier attempts to thwart Eternatus by older trainers. I personally love team yell for the fact that they aren't the real evil team in Alola, Team Skull were basically subordinate of the evil team, they are the enemy just really really low tier. While Team Yell are the good guys going about it in an aesthetic that looks bad for them. They're cheering on a girl to try and get her to win in an attempt to help their "boss" with depression. When the true evil team is revealed, instead of just joining them by default, team Yell helps the player. Not in the traditional double-battle way, but they do all the annoying stuff they've shown to be their forte, against the enemy. I personally feel they were well written. It wasn't a good 'twist', as it was easy to see they were too inept for any real villainy, but it was a nice turn for the character arc of an organization.

I agree completely especially with #1. The routes are too small and there is too much teased that we can't enter. Also the wild area kinda was dissapointing, like I expected more, especially caves, snowy areas and more to explore, it has a lot of wasted potential. Most of it is just focused on weather conditions, while I kinda hoped it would be like HGSS Safari Zone where different parts of it would serve different climates and different possibilities

the wild area felt especially empty, just compare them to the routes in gen 4 when the remakes come out. replaying Platinum I cross a bridge seeing tall grass and a cave below at some point, I immediately went "I've got to remember to explore that later." and it made the world feel bigger. such things invite you to wonder "did I miss hidden area's in previous routes?" it's also why I want more HM's to explore area's in earlier routes that I couldn't reach before and find new pokemon. (that's the Ideal use of HM's also more parts of the game need to be reworked for this vision to work). I'd rather have big routes with loads of hidden side area's than a big empty wild area.

My main problem with Galar is how awful Dynamax as a battle mechanic is. It's visually boring, dumbs down Pokémon to spam Max Airslash and max knuckle and you've basically won if you have any decent battling awareness. The only consistent counter is using your own Dynamax to time it out or imposter Ditto. Thank god Smogon banned this, as I can't play doubles now as it's even more brain-dead than it was in gen 7. It's definitely the worst battle mechanic ever added to Pokémon, we got rid of mega evolutions for this.

Many Pokémon who got it didn't need it or deserve it (the only Mons that I think rightfully deserved a Gigantamax was Garbodor, Machamp, Kingler and Butterfree) The Kanto starters already have megas, Pikachu and Eevee just waste two slots. Meowth also wasted a slot. Personally I'm not a fan of giving new Pokémon Gmax forms as they haven't been properly decided either they are deserving of a Gmax form by the community. Etc and if it was just Gigantamax people would just say "why aren't these just mega evolutions". They added Dynamax to try and differentiate itself from mega evolutions but made it even worse. Shame a region based on my home country is so mediocre.

Yeah, Kabu's just supposed to be a tough gym leader that doesn't pull any punches. In his backstory, he's a former Hoenn gym leader that performed so poorly that his gym had it's recognition from the Pokemon League revoked. The experience made him determined to prove his worth as a trainer and Gym leader, and thus he went to Galar to train. So many trainers lose to him because, as the third gym leader, they've basically just started their journey, but are being put up against a seasoned veteran that doesn't take any battles lightly.

The Gym Challenge just shows us the one slice. It's explained that there are gyms for every type, and before the gym challenge "goes live", the gyms are judged on their power to determine which of those gyms will be the 8 in the gym challenge "this time". In-game, Milo isn't the worst. He was able to beat out 11 other gyms to be one of the gyms in the gym challenge. And we don't know what the line up was last time nor do we know what it will be next time. To me, this "problem" sounds like an out of game problem and not an in-universe one

My thoughts: 6: yeah team yell are just plain stupid. It's like gamefreak saw how people liked skull and did it again but completely missed the point. 5: two things I hate about Gigantamaxing: the Pokemon don't physically get larger. They just look like their giant. Despite the fact that Dex entries and even the story goes "they'll destroy the region because their big" which makes no sense. And two Gigantamaxing is a vast majority of the time worse then regular dynamaxing because a lot of Gigantamax moves are worse like Charizard, no more harsh sunlight but you get fire spin. That's worthless 4: yeah, this game is basically hallway simulator the game. Something else I can't stand is how the amount of time to get to the first gym is the same amount of time as gyms 2-8. 3: I'm still infuriated at this. Gamefreak basically lied to everyone in the face and a lot of people who were ok with that 2: huh, you have a point, Galar has basically nothing of a culture. Alola had its trials at least. But Galar has literally nothing 1: yeah, SwSh is basically a hallway. If this was one of the older games you would be able to go through the farm lands, you'd be able to go up a few of the mountains and their caves, you would be able to see the rest of cities. But SwSh? Nah you don't need to see those, just go down that hallway, I mean route, to the next gym

@@olimar_09 The problem with just "Raising the levels" is that you can out-level that difference anyways. It'd only extend the time you need to take to beat it and not increase the enjoyment. One solution could be there was SOMETHING at the end of the game to work forward too (Battle Frontier or something similar). You'd have take your time breeding, training, and putting a well-balanced team together because you're forced to fight other trainers on an even playing field. A great way for you to test and gauge how good you are at BEING a trainer.

Having a difficulty setting after you beat the game, to make the game harder by giving the trainers good ai, more Pokémon and higher levels. Black and white 2 did this by its challenge mode. On emptiness, how about how theres only all of 3 places you can backtrack; once you get surf, you can go; get an item in that town with the Grass gym, and fight a Crawdaunt. Get an item in route 2, and fight a Obstagoon. Get an item in one of the two forgettable mines. Sure theres a little bit in the wild area, but there not enough there to excuse the region being as empty as my wallet.

With all this it still does feel like one of the better pokemon games to me, but I can't help thinking it's unfinished. There really isn't very much content. Most of the fun comes from the wild area and raids get stale relatively quickly. Dynamaxing was fun, until it was boring.

In other games you had either a mystery ahead to explore (at least the first time around) or a story that motivated you enough to finish it. The only reason I finished the Galar games was because the whole time I was like "there has to be something interesting ahead right? Right? Nope. My problems is that-of course- mostly gen. 1 got favored yet again getting gigantimax forms and some getting regional forms and evolutions. Also, a lot of Galar Pokémon take a bit too literal with inspiration with British culture, which not ever a bad thing, but a bit too much: a ghost in a teacup than a teapot, creamy desserts, some based on knights, punk rockers and a hooligan. While interesting, it got kind of annoying just seeing those multiple times. I did enjoy the games despite the negativity and what potential they could’ve had, and I have hope that the dlc helps make up for that.

I have not played this Gen yet but. I've watched quite a bit of gameplay... To me this is the 3rd region in a row where GF has not realised the potential of the region Kalos, design wise, is one of my favorite regions but we never got full access to certain areas. Some were empty and not really recognizable Sun and moon were too linear for me and it just felt too forced for me, because of that I feel like I didn't ge the time to really appreciate the region. The towns also felt really boring and lacked character. This while being in a region where you could really make them unique With sword and shield, they really did not optimize the potential of the console. They basically made a handheld game for a console and that's a big letdown. I hope the DLC add a lot of flavor and I definitely think we should get full access to the complete pokedex in the future To me, this game had the chance to really branch out the history 1nd flavor of "poke-Europe", especially with the history of The UK and France and with a great war happening between kalos and an unknown faction/region in the past. I do hope the gen 4 remakes are going to be a good good experience, if not, I fear for the future of the franchise (the games at least)

If you talk to NPCs, the Galar Gym Leaders duke it out to determine the Gym Challenge order. Strongest to weakest. Those multiple battles at the Pokemon League without the Champion is basically how it's done. And Kabu's Gym Challenge specifically is what makes him Gym hard in-universe, since a Champion Tier trainer like him is obviously holding back akin to many past Gym Leaders just like Nessa doubles down on. I'm more surprised you didn't finding the abnormal weather problematic.

So quick thinking about the third issue, they actually fully explain that in game. Milo himself says that the way the gym challenges work are that it's based on how strong the gyms are relative to each other. That's why there is a specific order for the gym leaders. So Milo knows that he is the weakest of the gym leaders. But remember, gym leaders in galar don't stay static in their position. They can change around depending on who beats who in the Pokemon world tournament. that's the reason why sword has Gordy and bea while shield has Alistair and Melony. Gordion & bea lost their gym priveledge that allowed them to be major gym leaders and we're relegated to minor gyms in shield and it's the opposite in sword.

This is the reason I stopped playing the game after finishing the storyline. I preferred the way gyms were handled in Pokemon Origins where the gym leaders adjusted their teams based on the amount of badges the challenger has. Gen 8 actively opposed that and my favourite type got the short end of the stick so I could be a bit salty but still; I will say that there was a bit of wasted potential of what could have been more open world

We need that Game Freak give something to feedbacks, National Dex, Megas, Z-Moves amd Dynamaxing in one game, with more Pokémon, Megas, Exclusive Z-Moves, New Gigantamaxing, maybe a New type. Open world, fight The Gyms in any order, there's a gym for all types, all It in a New region, it could be awesome If you could travel to older regions, and fully explore all of each region to worth the price. Add more culture and story to the region. It could be a awesome game.

Thats wishing for a bit too much there, having an all region game would either make every other game look horrible, or just be boring. They would have way too many gyms, and you would be level 100 by the third region and get bored quickly, or be amazing and kick every other game out of the water. As much of i _want_ that, that would be too much to wish for.

#6 was a problem for me from the start (the whole idea of an “evil team” in this story feels like it was shoehorned in), and #5 and #4 aren’t issues for me, but I didn’t realize how much numbers 3-1 bothered me until now. I only watched play-throughs of the game since I can’t play it myself, so I didn’t pick up on those things right away. But yeah, what gives? Why make all these beautiful landscapes and not let us explore them? Why not come up with in-universe reasons why certain Pokémon can’t be transferred in? Not hating on Pokémon or Game Freak, but someone dropped the ball hard and I would like to know who. I have some guesses as to why, but I don’t want to assume anything.

For me it helped when I viewed team yell as misunderstood rather than pure evil. They never claim to be evil, and outside of inconveniencing trainers they don't don't do anything remotely bad. On a few occasions they are seen doing things that are objectively good. Their motivations are good even if they sometimes take their actions a bit too far.

A personal rewrite of Galar would probably go something like this: -Have an actual evil team, replace about half (minimum) of Team Yell's appearances with said evil team's. Basically, if Marnie isn't physically around - then Team Yell has no business being there and should be replaced. This evil team is to be the main antagonist of Macro Cosmos and Chairman Rose until the reveal that Macro Cosmos is in essence the "actual" big bad. This evil team intends to absorb the dynamax energy of Eternatus - who in this rewrite is an Ultra Beast (revealed during post game, alluded to by the evil team in the main campaign) - in order to power a device that, once activated, will awaken the legendary wolves, so that the evil team leader can become the next hero of Galar. You stop them, but their meddling has begun to stir Eternatus, Rose believes that it's only a matter of time before Eternatus begins siphoning back the energy it has been producing (the energy that Rose has been using to power Galar). So, as a result of this fear, Rose chooses to wake up Eternatus BEFORE your Pokemon League Tournament (having the tournament be interrupted twice in a row before you can fight the champion is stupid imo), Rose tells Leon to go save Galar, you and Hop remember some details the evil team leader mentions about the wolves and go to slumbering weald, get the sword and shield, etc, etc etc. However, this time you can NOT catch Eternatus... Yet. Defeat Eternatus, save Galar, become the champion. Before you fight Leon, the cover legendary becomes available to capture if you choose to seek it out, otherwise you'll have plenty of time afterwards. Eternatus is only available for capture during the post-game at the end of a somewhat lengthy quest featuring some of the Fallers from Ultra Space in USUM, where you learn more about that "meteor" Eternatus originally was. The post game in this version, naturally, exists this time around - unlike the original. -Oh, also have Kabu use the Carkol he owns, and maybe a Hoenn pokemon too (since he comes from Hoenn). Obviously he's the 3rd Gym and they'd rather not give him a full team, but something like Torkoal (with Drought) -> Carkol -> Ninetails -> Arcanine -> Centiskorch shouldn't be too much for the player to handle. They could even make it 4 pokemon by having his Ninetails and Arcanine be separated by game version (Ninetails in Sword with Confuse Ray, Hex, and maybe some grass or psychic coverage and Arcanine in Shield with Reversal, electric coverage, and Intimidate). Like, most people supposedly have trouble with him but he's easily steamrolled by literally any rock or water type in the game. If he's supposed to be the big early game difficulty spike like the game claims he is then he should at least be able to counter the types that would otherwise destroy him. Unless the game really wants you to think that most challengers don't use any Rock, Water, or Ground pokemon and/or moves.

My problem is the Champion Defense Battle when you’re the Champion. Think about it, you enter the Challenge for a chance to battle the Champion, so why am I battling as a contestant when I AM the Champion???

The game is just completely lacking...everything. The routes are sparse and devoid of much character, the story is very basic even for a pokemon game and the overall design of the region is just... boring. Living in Scotland myself, I feel like there’s so much rich lore and history that could be used for pokemon designs, as well as player customisation options, yet, beyond the bagpipe music, there really isn’t much. Every aspect of this game could be better and it’s SO frustrating how good this game COULD have been

I’m gonna summerize the story of Galar. There once I’m was a kid who started there training. They had to get 8 badges. There were some bad guys and some big bad guy who wasn’t related to those other bad guys. You fight a god and win due to the power of friend ship. The end. Oh yea I forgot to mention there were some other story stuff to but don’t worry about that, Leon already took care of it for you instead of you discovering it

The main Problem of Galar is the Charizard obsession. 😄 Red & Blue, Fire Red & Leaf Green: Both sets had a Charizard,, so the next Kanto Remake need a Venusaur and a Blastoise as Cover Pokémon. Gen 6: Charizard gets 2 (!) Mega Evolutions. Well, as for Mewtwo, it's kind of understandable, but come on, there's no way to put Charizard in the same spot as Mewtwo. 😄 And now, Charizard is the main Pokémon of the beloved Galar Champion while the other two Kanto starters don't even exist... That's a bit too much.

i think the root of the problem of the world feeling small is actually the more realistic world design for two main reasons: production and symbolism, Production becuause everything is closer to real scale/representation so it takes more time and effort to render and design which has also caused the routes to have gotten smaller in exchange for looking better, and symbolism because with more accurate representations it restricts a player's ability to imagine what the things the game is showing us *could* look like because the're now telling us what they *do* look like.

Charizard has literally always been an extremely popular Pokemon, and the people who make the games know it; the first ever Charizard card to be printed is worth hundreds, possibly even thousands of dollars in the best condition you can find it in, and a more recent card that had both Charizard and Reshiram on it was worth $400 dollars at one point. Whether you like it or not, it would honestly be stupid for them to not give Charizard some more limelight, especially when you consider that it's one of the most popular and recognizable Pokemon alongside Pikachu; therefore it's an obvious choice to market it so heavily. ................Having said that, however, and I am personally not a fan of it's gigantamax design, nor am I too thrilled that they actually went as far as to make it the champion's signature Pokemon. The latter part I feel is pushing it a little bit too much, considering that they could've chosen any other Pokemon to fill that niche instead, but if they were thinking anything like the way I think they were, they would've picked Pikachu instead, and god only knows that it needs more of a boost than it already has.

Aside from the change in appearance that they go through besides just getting bigger, any other changes that are made seem mostly arbitrary at best. It's unfortunate that they made this a gameplay mechanic first without explaining more of the lore behind it, so hopefully they will expand on this more in the DLC once we get our hands on it.

My biggest problem with SWSH is the lack of non-gym story. Gen 3/4 had contests, Gen 5 had the PWT 6 didn't have anything but 7 had a ton to do. 8 just feels very lackluster looking at all the other gens. It feels a lot shorter than the other regions

One thing that made me disappointed. How come the trainer can't swim? I can understand certain areas needing pokemon/equipment to traverse thanks to currents or weather.... But we battle swimmers ALL the time! And we can send the pokemon we are surfing on into battle!

With the bit about Culture, I think you hit it on the head right at the start: "Thoroughly modern". Sites and scenes that might have been hotspots to show their culture are abandoned or turned into tourist attractions. The locals take it for granted as exactly that, tourist attractions, or just... being there. It's a thing. Pokemon battles are obviously important everywhere else, but Galar are the only ones that turn it into a big huge national sport with giant audience-filled stadiums. That *is* their culture in the modern day, basically.
